Palin's "personal" gov email "hack"
I'm sure many of you have heard of this, and those that haven't, heres the summery.
Sarah Palin had set up two yahoo email accounts, both obviously meant for government work seeing as the letters "gov" could be found in both e-mail addresses.
About a week ago one of those accounts was "hacked", but not really hacked.
What really happened was some guy used the password recovery system and simply entered the information that was needed, all easily found in a matter of minutes with a quick google search.
Thats not really hacking, so to call it a straight out hack would be wrong.
The guy after realizing what kind of serious business he had just gotten himself into, did a fairly logical thing.
I mean, whats an easier way to get your access lost in a sea of log-ins than to post the info on 4chan? Then someone decided to be a "white knight", changed the password and reported it.
Anyway, I don't condone what was done. I think it's funny, yea, but do think that what the guy did was really stupid, and don't feel sympathy for him getting thrown into jail.
But, this whole thing brings me to question Sarah's ability to protect this country. (note: these accounts that I'm talking about are not her personal e-mail accounts, but "personal" government email accounts)
Here she is using a basic consumer level e-mail provider that has zero encryption to do government work on.
Now, she already has an official .gov email address, so it's not like she had to make those email accounts to get access. And the .gov email accounts provide heavy security to ensure that hackers do not get into the system and get information that they shouldn't be able to get.
Now this here was just some guy farting around on the Internet. What if it wasn't? What if this never happened, and she kept those e-mail accounts, became VP? Then one day some REAL hackers of a terrorist group find those accounts and not simply some guy that knows how to use google. What do you think they're going to do? Think they'll be nice and just leave those accounts alone?
Hell no.
It's a massive breach of security and extremely dangerous to this countries safety.
She has an official government e-mail address already. Why the hell does she need three? If you're getting a lot of e-mail, too much even, then she can easily set up filters that would sort out the mail into groups, and then she could take it from there.
But that she has two private e-mail accounts for government business makes it seem like she's trying to hide something.
Also, the .gov email accounts keeps a record of all the information that passes through it. Yahoo does not. If you delete an e-mail in yahoo, it's gone. And interestingly enough, the investigation on Palin was requesting the e-mail record of those accounts.
And to note, she can have her own personal e-mail account. Nothing wrong with that. But government work shouldn't be part of it. It should be just that, personal, for friends and family.
Now, to answer a question some may have, no there wasn't any incriminating evidence found on that one account. There may have been at one point, or there may have not. It may be on the other account, or it may not.
Unfortunately, we will never know because both accounts have been deleted.
But this shows me that either Palin does not care about this country's security or she does not know how to care for this country's security.
Not a positive thing no matter how to spin it, especially when you're running to be the VP, aka: Back up President
