How many hours a day of gaming do you guys consider a person to be hardcore and casual?
Casual Players don't play 15+ hours a day, don't badmouth everyone who isn't max or close to max level 5 hours after a game going live, don't make excuses like "oh getting to level over 9000 is easy lol it took me 30minutes"
"Hardcore" Players DO play 15+ hours a day, they DO badmouth everyone who isn't a max level or close 5 hours after a game goes live, and they DO make excuses like "oh getting to level over 9000 is easy lol it took me 30minutes" and "lol I had 99999999999999999999 gold at lvl 5 noob ur doing it rong"
Actual Hardcore gamers? They're too busy playing games to even bother posting on a gaming forum :P
It's not so much the hours, as the motivation. If you do everything else you need to do (such as work, chores, going out with friends/girlfriend, other hobbies) and you have spare time, and you spend that on games, well then you're a casual gamer. It doesn't really matter how many hours that is, some people just have more excess time than others. People who game first and do the other things later, are more like hardcore gamers. That said, there are plenty in between like me, who set aside a set amount of time for the things that need to do, and play the rest of the time. I still get done what I need to do, but I pretty much set aside some time for games aswell, not just the excess time I have left over after I've done everything else.
if i can find a good game and i'm not at work then i can put in 5+ a day...
Once I find a game to stick with.... I can go 15+ hrs a day....
Anyone know of any good F2P MMORPG's?
Grind doesnt bother me
1-5 Hours a day / 1-5 days a week = Casual
6-12+ Hours a day/6+ days a week = Hardcore
Thats what I think.
Casual Players don't care about reaching the max in games, they just want to have fun. They are usually more sociable and easy to talk to.
Hardcore Players aim for the highest and get their enjoyment from crushing others below them. Many of these players are aggressive speakers.
GO HARDCORE! I love both, but Spore, Is a Casual, and got boring fast. Casual games get pretty boring fast than Hardcore for some people.
I must be a "hybrid" then. I play a lot yet i'm not entirely an asshole.
I play to have fun. I don't care about losing or dying. (Unlike a friend I won't mention who refuses to leave town because she died)
I help people when I have the time to. I hand out items I make to random newbies. Etc.
I've been thinking about the middle for a while now because that is where I am. I usually start a game with the casual mindset, but will go hardcore to try to squeeze a bit more of entertainment out of the game.
Maybe we can help define the middle right here at OnRPG as 'Casual-Core' and make it acceptable and widespread in the gaming community. Spread this word around by saying you are a 'Casual-Core' player when people ask 'what kind of gamer are you'!
well by the definitions being put across here I'm a hardcore gamer, but yet I don't seem to have the characteristics that a few are saying we hold, I play more then 15 hours a week sometimes I'll play more then 15 hours a day, aggressive? not me, bad mouth others? not me, admittedly I wanna be the best but more so well respected in game, whether that be by obtaining the highest lvl fastest or making the best items etc which I have done a couple of first in my mmorpg career but I've also ran countless numbers of lowbies through dungeons, given help on how to play certain classes, how to gear and provided gear to people. Not everyone enjoys playing games for long hours nor does everyone have the same skill level but I don't judge them on that, I do though take offense to people who just don't learn.
You guys are describing hardcore palyers as power players, they aren't the same. . .
Hardcore is someone who spend all his time playing and basically has no life (just like me and alot of mmo players).
Power player is almost the same, but thinks about strenght before fun, like to laugh at the newbies telling them they're just noobs etc...
i spend all my free time playing game, because there's just nothing to do and my friends are all busy. i watch alot of anime and mangas =p if my friends and i aren't busy, we go out all the time. i especially enjoy playing billards.
so i got nothing else to do and spend all my free time, so by default, that means i have no life and spend all my time playing games. such a stereotypical definitions >_>
to me, causual players are more social players, hardcore players are competitive players, and power player are those that tries to accomplish everything in the game as well as gain a wide knowledge of the game.
the hours of playing on a game is a poor example to judge how casual or hardcore a player is.
Well I guess I'm a hybrid. I play a lot whenever I plan on staying home. Like on weekends I can play for 12+ hours if it's raining. From 7 AM to like 3 AM.
On regular days I play for like 3-4 hours depending on what time I get home.
I'm basically the hardcore type. I hate being newbie and brag about my high level but I also help newbies by giving them money or items.
IM a hybrid.
I play about 7 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.
Usually im not main level leveling (like in archlord now) Ill be leveling something (alchemy in archlord)
I talk to people constantly, and help when possible.
I think hordcore gaming is in the eye of the beholder.
Hardcore gamers and casual are well defined by Counter strike
Hardcore- uses mic and yells at team
Casual- random ass chatter not even about the game
I'm sort of hardcore and casual. If I play a game and like it alot, I'll put in an easy 6+ hours or more in it a day, 40 hours or more every 7 days until it becomes stale or I just get all the best stuff and at-to-near max level with nothing to do.
If it's an ok or average game, I'll slip in 2-3 hours on it a day until it's just boring or whatever.
It's however it appeals to you I guess.
i think its not by how long they play its by the seriousness they treat it in game
a causual gamer play as when he likes when he feel like killing a monster and logoff or just play till they are bored
a hardcare gamer play like there is no tommorow, even the grind is crazy or how tired they are. They will still continue even there are tons of meteorite falling, they usually set high expectations and aim in the game like getting 10 level up by today if not they cannot sleep or eat lol
When you spend more time gaming then you do sleeping you're hardcore in my book.
Usually 8h a day on weekdays, 12h+ on weekends. My friends dont say that I play too much so im okay with this amount :3
Btw I got school 6h a day.
casual gamer = has a life
hardcore = confused which to prioritize between life or gaming
addict = no life at all
Ugh.. I'm casual.. (Blame's school)
I don't define hardcore and casual by time spent playing games, cause most people define hardcore and casual as an mmorpg type setting. It should be based on the behavior a person shows in-game.
wtf, "hardcore gamer" only makes me think of internet tough guys, but those usually make me lul, thus really failing at being "hardcore".
Ever heard of a "hardcore tv-watcher"? No. Hardcore per definition claims that there is some kind of skill/talent within those that take games way too seriously.
Only thing I can think of that is appropriate, is that "hardcore" gamers don't learn any longer (aka knowing everything worthwhile about the game) as opposed to causal gamers (DS target audience, aka your grandmother).
Real Hardcore gamers (wich I met in ryl, 2moons and wow):
- They always work in a group
- The group is ready 24/7
- Do account sharing or meet IRL to play in one room for easy communication and same exact online times or the ability to instantly replace someone that has to do something IRL
- WOW: Doing Raiding 7 Days a week 8 Hours+ per day mostly around evening with 25+ people. If you cant be there once you get warned a few times, after that you get kicked from the guild because you can be easily replaced since there will be alot of people trying to join your Guild (Guilds like these are server top and do firstkills, thats why)
- 2Moons: Way more time consuming than WOW, I met people that stay on for 18-20 hours a day for several weeks, sometimes they skip sleep for 3-4 days using drugs (forgot the name but it was something like a very strong coffeine). They work as a full party of 7-8 people, this means theres a full party of 6 people 24/7 while the others are sleeping, and when these wake up, two other guys go to bed etc. All in all it is way more time consuming than WOW to be the best.
- RYL2: The game is based on Equipment wich can be enchanted with materials that you can buy in the cash shop. Theres pretty much no limit on enchanting, so the more you buy, the better you are.
The server top guys spent atleast 5k$ to get some Equipment parts to the maximum, but ive even heard about xx.000$ sums spent. I personaly spent something around 200$ and I already started owning alot of people, so you can imagine that you are a god with the sums spent that I stated above:

People with normal equip hit this boss for 50-150 dmg, check out his crits. Yeah, he can solo world bosses wich means alot of riches for him ^^
Casuals play for ze lulz.
Hardcore gamers have 'goals' and are 'serious' with the game.
casual players are more like "i <3 realgirls"
hardcore players are more like "i <3 pixelgirls!"
:p
Counter strike.
Casual- TEAM FLASH LOL
Hardcore - TEAM FLASH WTF
;/ So many of the previous posters in this thread have somewhat biased, if not general misconceptions of the casual gamer as opposed to the hardcore gamer. ;o A hardcore gamer would be someone who strives to achieve all the goals the game offers to complete, usually at a higher difficulty and plays these games much more often than casual gamers. I'm h to the core in online competitive titles especially, but unlike many classified as "hardcore gamers" (you know the type, childish and insults you if they win or lose, depending on which they either gloat or complain.) I don't insult or belittle people because I have good sportsmanship.

The casual gamer does not play often, maybe an hour or two in a puzzle game or first person shooter. They do not like to increase the difficulty because they would rather breeze through the game with as little frustration as possible. There are many more of these types of gamers than there are hardcore because their main focus is relieving stress and/or having fun. ;o I mean Nintendo's emphasized all focus towards the casual gamer and look how well they're doing. ;D I hope I've cleared up some confusion for you guys.
F U C K Y O U
Sorry, just got to do that. That is incorrect and as rude as me cursing at you.
We hardcore gamer aren't extremist.
Hardcore gamer is when you know your situation in game and most of the time you only think of winning.
I won't deny I'm a hardcore gamer.
Well.. darkfall should be my last game I play ever.. so hopefully I will be in a good guild there sieging castles and stuff all the time. I will probably play "hardcore" on darkfall but theres no levels or stuff so just have to learn to be good at pvp and be in a good guild lol
In my opinion, casual gamers play no more than 5 hours of a game per week. Someone in the thread had pointed out in their opinion that a casual gamer is anything between 1-5 hrs a day. Five hours in one day is a HUGE portion of your day, which kills the casual aspect of it.
