Because by choosing a pre-set class in a pre-set game with a pre-set story in a pre-set world....
You have a role.
technically even though you're not "role playing" being said character in personality, you are still playing the role of that character in a world.
In my opinion,The role playing factor is only as strong as the story and how involved you are in that story.
Most MMORPGs(free ones) don't have deep stories which make you feel like you have accomplished something in the story.
