None of those bands (with the possible exception of Van Halen, who imo were rock) are metal, though.

Metal is incredibly broad, you should have be more specific.
I wouldn't see them as contributers in a good light, if I think that their music is generally uninspired and not that good.
On how they shaped extreme metal: what kind of?
Trash?
Like Megadeath?
Or Pantera?
Well, as all bands that I can think of are better, besides clinical technicalities, imho, I could do without them, or their influence...
They simply never closely made my top 100, so yea, all I say, is, they are certainly not "all I need" material.
@P_G:Haha, I wouldn't put things that I know in front of a "?".
You just know how bullshitty stuff you read on the webz is...
With metal it's somewhat like with electronic;
When you go to a festival, the best most intriguing performance are often found on the small sets and stages and the fillers.
Not in the way that Slayer is totally not unique, the way how everything sneaks up and tries to be them just doesn't get me going, because they aren't that "good" to me, they are just "yea, Slayer"...
They don't really make me resonate to their stuff at all.
I hardly ever listened to a full song consciously, they are those pieces that constantly get skipped after they established one and another not so great hook and than ****ed up to make it physically present and drag you along.
Off to listen to some KiSS...
Dragonforce are not metal.
They are some crazy Asians in a studio slamming on a keyboard.
I could make that shit on fruityloops.
Studioforce, whoever said that, your amazing. haha
And If you asked what D N' B was, it is Drum and bass. a genre of music, more electronic.
If you like metal, i reccomend you listen to Protest The hero. It is Prog metal/mathcore.
that will help you get into -core music, which is ultimately better than power/doom/whatever genre metalnoobs make up next metal.
IMHO.
The IMHO tagged on at the end doesn't make up for the amount of stupid and annoying in the rest of your post.
This is like me saying hardcore is all garbage just because I don't like it, and despite the fact that I've heard almost none of it (I doubt you've heard almost any non-mainstream metal anyway)
