It's a web browser game.
Meh.
It doesnt lag in tutorial mode.
yea timer on quakelive.com is DDHHMMSS. the one i put up seperates it.
I'll try it just to see what it's like. :hmm:
It's good to see more people will be online. Not that the number of users is a problem or anything.
yea well the lower numbers in cb messed with the tiers of players(low thousands it seemed). lets hope with more players the tiers will work out better. lower tier players were forced to join higher tier games and screw the teams a little. i don't totally agree with the way players are tiered either. the training and getting to the last hall was way too easy. i think the strafe hall should be to get to the second door. if you can't strafe, you should immediately be thrown into the novice door.
Wohoooo! A new wave of nu- newcomers to play with. If it's your first time. Played it during whole CB, it's fun guys trust me, the learning curve is just hard and painful lol ; it's notting like the campfest COD or CS series, no camping, no sniping at long range, no grenade to spam ( lol! ).
yea it's an awesome video.
also, don't be frightened by that video if you are new and want to play. those are all done over months of play constantly recording, editing the other parts out. those types of frags aren't the norm(mainly the air rockets), but they do happen.
I've never played any Quake games. O_o
Lol, well, those were pro long time players. There's a skill matching system, so you won't fall in the same category as those guys. The category will change as you get better at the game. But become good fast! once you can do what they do in this video, you get a rush of adrenaline at every kill! :O ( lol, ok, maybe not, but it's really fun :) ).
Shit! Sign me in!
iv been playing the closed beta for a while .. .and well ...meh its just quake
What did you expect?
I think people set their standards too high for this game. It's a time-passer, that's all. There is absolutely nothing new here. To me, there's nothing wrong with that. They set out to provide free Quake III arena over your browser and succeeded.
It's like someone saying, after they played mario bros. 3 over some rom database that "meh, it's just mario"
No shit it's just mario. That's the point! What did you expect the game to do? Fix you a sandwich? Mail you a funny card with ten dollars in it?
It is what it is. But I don't think it deserves too much negative criticism since we all played this game back in the day and loved it--wasted hours deathmatching in it--and although it doesn't hold a candle to FPS's of today it's still amusing to take a trip down memory lane and go BFG someone up the tailpipe. And it's really sweet that you can bust this out at work without having to install the software.
it may not hold a candle to the graphics(though there is something to be said about flying around a map at 200+ fps) of the fps's of today, but no game since has come even close to the twitch gameplay or speed it has.
I'm a sniper but the rail gun + rokeeets = GeeGee.Who needs "Aim" the game was, and is amazing.
TBH My whole family was harkore about quake. :)
so it will be the same installable Quake III Arena, but just purely playable in browser like Pirate Galaxy for example?
it will download about 300mb of files to your computer which will finish before you're even done with the 10 minute training session. it's quake 3 with some weapon tweaks and additions. you can go fullscreen and not even notice it's running from a browser. you can't join quake 3 arena servers, only the servers that id provides through the browser.
But i wont need any setup.exe like file to download to play?
awesome
used to play q3 though i sucked and learned a bit strafe jump
Been forever since I've played a good game of Quake, gonna give it a shot.
Oh yea, I am ready to pwn some n00bs :D
Yeah, this is pretty badass.
lol, grenade launcher...
well there already are medals for achievements and kill/death ranking as well as being able to challenge players of your level of experience based of the k/d ratio. and why woulnt they want to make it modable? .. its not like they lose anything by it, and probobly some more ppl would join because of it and so that it woulnt interferee with the rankings and so on they could make some kind of dedicated server where mods would be allowed
well, so far they have duel, ffa, tdm, ca, instagib and ctf.
unlockable things won't work as everyone uses forcemodel to make enemies easier to hear/spot. having levels would not be good as people would have an advantage over others. you want something more competitive than quake? is that possible? mainly this is just to get new people and older people back into quake.
you're missing the entire point of what they did.
if you want to mod Q3A then go reinstall Q3A and play on their mod servers.
yes, there's medals pertaining to k/d ratio, but these are things that are not visually represented during gameplay and have no effect on the system. having to load mods and new player models would be taxing because they probably wouldn't be optimized (especially community mods).
this is supposed to be as simple as simple gets: Q3A in your browser. Bing-bang-boom. The actual game, software and all, still exists and there are still servers open for it. What the hell would be the point in reinventing the wheel? It's clear the developers did this for shits and giggles and are proud of themselves for being able to do it. They already have a game with a huge mod community.
Don't get me wrong, down the road there may be all kinds of new things in QLive. But, c'mon, this is the first open beta of the game. You want mods and unlockables and all sorts of extras? Get real, bud.
the quakelive irc channel is overflowing now. over 700 users.
I hope it dosen't lag or crash when it opens EDIT: 2k seconds left
Talk about Server Tolerance testing O.o
Don't know if I should be happy that so many people are trying to play or If should be disseapointed about how bad it's lagging right now cause of the flood. lol.
i think the queue is just for creating accounts.
