So because they got pwned... since they're hospitable it no longer counts as being pwned?
I think it does. They pwned them with their own like, controller.
Japanese in general are faaar too trusting, seriously. They take things on face-value far too often. Countless times, my friends have completely fooled exchange students on my university by telling the most outrages lies, and they don't even stop for a second to consider whether it is bullshit or not.
So yeah, I can imagine that it is easier to steal or con people in japan, than a lot of other places. It's probably due to the large difference in criminal rates in comparison to most other countries. There is virtually no crime there(appart from organized, which really doesn't affect ordinairy people all that much), so naturally the people there will be more trusting. In places with a lot of crime and dishonesty, people are bound to grow more protective and suspissious over time.
