Time Warner Cable/ Road Runner's new policy -

I don't know how many of you guys have Road Runner (an American internet service provider), but I heard on the radio that by September they will be charging customers money for every Gigabyte they go over the "max usage" requested by the user. This "max usage" apparently allows you a certain amount of megabytes/gigabytes you can surf the net and do stuff for. Once you go over it, after every gigabyte, Time Warner will charge you for overuse. This "max usage" amount can be increased, but you will have to pay more monthly.

For me, this is a drastic problem. I surf the net a lot and I tend to download hundreds of megabytes of stuff every day.

They also said "hopefully" if the public outcry is enough, they will drop this policy.


Do you guys think this is a bullshi- move to make more money?

They already tried to test that here in Texas it failed horrably lol so they decided to charge extra only on the users that have the highest useage in there node that failed to then they said they were not going to do it anymore so who know


so im on the site talking to a rep right now i asked since there going to charge useage fees if they can suggest another cable comp that has a flat rate lol... and he doesnt understand me lol he asked me to elaborate on the issue

I don't see it happening. That's pretty much how the internet started out back in dial-up days. You had a limit of time and DL/UL capacity, and depending on your plan, they either cut off your internet until the end of the month, or charged extra if you went over.

That disappeared very quickly when High-speed and cable appeared. Suddenly dial-up couldn't do that any more, because other providers were offering a better plan (no limits) I can't see any provider being able to start limiting your use at this point, and keeping their clients. Everyone would just go to another provider.

i advise you not to move to belgium due to 30gb UP AND DOWN total every month which is overpriced at low speeds

isnt there some sort of a policy that will take place in 2011 which charges u like this?

Yeah the company i use tried to pull a move like that, except we have a 150 gig per month; If you go over they dramatically cut your internet usage down.

But ive downloaded around atleast 200 gigs worth of games in december and i still had the same connection 1-2mb/s download. i pay stuff like this no heed. theyre just trying to cut down on Internet piracy

hmm...didn't comcast also try to do some crap like that. Thanks god I don't pay for it any more so I have free broadband internet. WOO !!!

WoW patches aint shit compared to AoC

Wow patches range from 200-500mb, big content patches are around 800mb tops.

Age of conan patches range from 600mb- 3 gigabytes.
