So I was browsing through the good ol' intertubes when I stumbled on this.
Apparently Valve announced that they were making a sequel to Left 4 Dead at E3 and I smell bullshit. First off, why the hell would they make a sequel to Left 4 Dead? Take a look at Team Fortress 2. They've been updating the shit out of that game. Why wouldn't they do the same to Left 4 Dead? After all, we haven't even gotten any new campaigns yet and since the game is so young, it makes even less sense for Valve to make a sequel to it. Left 4 Dead has no storyline to develop, so the only reason for them to make a sequel to it is in order to make drastic updates to the gameplay, which Valve would of just done before the game was even released.
This game just makes no sense to me. Is Valve snorting crack or something?
Edit: Few more links for anyone who wants more info on the game.
They want money for more free TF2 updates and HL3. Just roll with it dawg.

But they didn't do that with the Team Fortress series. It just doesn't make any sense...

L4D2 is probably just for the Xbox people since SDK is PC. I don't see any reason why a PC player would pick this up.

Well user-made content is a little harder to access on left 4 Dead then any other Source game. Would be nice if we had a server list but noooooooooo.

Its not a joke.
They made a sequel because developers felt like doing moar that wasn't done in L4D.
I believe they said a playable demo was at E3.
Just check ign.com for shiz like this gawd.

Shitstorm all over gaming forums. It is real, no doubt about that, valve even announced it on their homepage. Its also a whole new game, not DLC. Although everyone will complain and whine about it, companies make games for money, and this is what valve is doing. I just hope they won't abandon L4D1.

I was just being facetious with the title. What I'm saying is that the game makes no sense. The game has been in development since 2004~, so if there were any major features that Valve wanted to put in the game they would be in it. Everything else could easily be put in through updates.

They already put a new section in the steam forums up for it.

They COULD be, but they could ALSO be done through a $50 sequel. As a company, Valve saw a way to make a pretty penny off of a hit online survival horror game, and is rolling with it. Now, what Valve SHOULD do is learn to understand the meaning of episodic gaming, but that's another rant for another time.

I like francis, zoey, bill and louis much more than I like the looks of these three generic "Hood" Gangsta's lololol! That they're starring as the main characters T_T
And tbh, they buggered left 4 dead 1 up a bit, this is proberly their way of A) making some more money and B) Fixing the shit they did wrong in left 4 dead 1.

Hood gangsta's? One of them looks like a gambling addict, one of them is a teenager and the other is some fat African American that doesn't really seem to reflect a 'gangsta' person.

But why would they decide to do this with Left 4 Dead and not Team Fortress 2? After all, they've added quite a bit to Team Fortress 2. New Maps, new game mods, unlockable weapons. yet all of a sudden they decided that Left 4 Dead should have a sequel? Why do this with one franchise and not the other?

Maybe they are pushing something new in this version of the game.

Left 4 Dead has a number of little issues here and there, and it seems Valve has decided to (hopefully) fix them via a full blown sequel instead of a number of updates. While a proper server list update would be more than enough for me to buy the game, it seems I'm going to have to wait and pay newgame price for what is essentially a repackaging of the same game, but with a shiny new box.
TF2 does not have a campaign, while L4D does. They could easily just release new maps via DLC or updates, but I guess they decided to do it via the sequel, as the consoles can only take so much in terms of updates(Notice how TF2 on the 360 does not have the newer weapons.).
[EDIT]: Keep in mind that they have only just announced the game. It's entirely possible there is more they are going to add.

Let me run through the facts:
Five new campaigns
New animations
New weapons
New ammo types
New infected types
New characters
New online mode
New AI director which controls map layout, time(I.E. Day and Night), and of course zombie spawn.
The original L4D will still be supported
Sounds pretty good for $50. These games aren't meant to be scary(plus I'm sure zombies would still scare in the daylight) they're mean to be zombie killing simulators.

wow dude forget about tf2, why not? they don't have to do the same thing over and over again because they did it once.
only problem is from what i've seen the graphics look a bit less realistic.

I wouldn't mind a sequal as long as there is a mode where we can play as the TF2 characters.

If this seriously is coming out I'm going to pass... I loved L4D, but KillingFloor, which I just got a week ago totally beat the shit out of it. Sorry to say but L4D=Good KF=GREAT.
You all should get it, it is only $20 on Steam at the moment. About a dozen weapons including a flamethrower, chainsaw, and even a fricken rocket launcher. There also is a class system, to which you can lvl each class up to a max of lv5. Each class has bonuses to what you want to use in game or the way you play. For example the Healer class has faster healing and better heals. There is also the FireBug class that has bonuses based on flamethrower. Commando which gives bonuses based on SMG. Specialist based on shotgun... Beserker based on melee and the marksman based on sniping. The weapons are as listed:
L4D is still a good game. But compared to KF it is really slow and easy. KF also has more than a normal zombie based enemy... There are some that use sword arms and chainsaws... Hell the boss uses cloaking, chaingun, rocket launcher, and more...
I say if you want something more faster and harder than L4D, get KF. KF also offers a max of 6 players instead of 4... But you can get a mod or play on mod servers that allows up to so far what I've seen even more than 100 players per server! KF also allows custom maps. The special slowdown mode also adds some awesomeness to this game along with the rock hard soundtrack that is a loop, but very catchy. It is also VERY sexy graphical wise.
Feel free to join in the fight... Let us take back London, and the rest of the world, together!

The original L4D will still be supported - they lied about updates, I wouldn't trust them this time...and bcs they splited up community, there wont be much ppl playing 1 one, why? because damn 2nd one is better...so why still support a dead and empty game?
So you just want to pay 50 more bukz for new animations and new A.I.D.? It sounds more like expansion not a full game...

I think it's obvious.
Buy an update for EVERY class would be murder in TF 2. Imagine having to buy the latest sniper vs spy update for a couple of items, TF2 would have one server left if anything.
Now L4D2 is different. They're adding some couple of new features, maps, weapons, probably new character and they're claiming it as an expansion. Since people are going to jump on the shinny new things bandwagon, Valve gets to ride a train full of cash.
