Best to find a local place so you don't have to have the shirts shipped.
The only way you can really effectively do this is by buying in bulk.
A lot of the times, you can find cheap shirts...but they are just that - cheap. They are really thin, almost see-thru (maybe what you're after, if you're making shirts for girls ;))
Also - you can't sell the stuff out of your apartment. Only online...because that would count as running a business out of your apartment, and thats pretty illegal (tax, etc). If you're caught, they can seize all your stuff.
If you're gonna sell online ANYWAY, just use CafePress. Millions of people do that though, so you'd better have something pretty cool to offer. Also, if you sell them on CafePress, you don't need to print the shirts yourself, or have them in your apartment in like 8 different sizes, annnnnnnd you don't have to worry about shipping them. All you do is design the shirt, and wait for people to buy it. Granted, you'll be losing SOME profit, but it won't matter if you sell a bunch.
