I'd like more examples this is just off the top of my head ATM
No actual spoilers in my post expect for videos, but majority of these games are old.
I mean when I say this, lately some games final battle has been letting me down. They don't have that same "oh shit hes still alive!?!?" bullshit like older games.
FF was a pro at last bosses, you never knew when they were dead.
A few of games could have had better ending battles/scenes off the top of my head:
Halo 3 - last level is just fight the oracle and a ****ing car ride :| Fable 2 - good game but nothing epic to fight, just the same troll over and over Fallout 3 - to good for such a boring ending Assassins creed 1-2 - I know you cant do much for a boss but I expect more Oblivion - can't remember exactly just remember it lacked.
In the middle: Boarder lands - fun but easy DOA4 - fun but cheated hard as **** but made you play so hard to win. GTA4 - meh........ Tales of Vesperia - to predictable
Good endings: Mass effect 1 - just barely made this Mass effect 2 - It was easy but soooooooooo fun/cool Call of duty MW:2 - This here be some fast paced action, well for me atleast.
I miss these kinds of boss fights

I'd argue that SPOILERbeing able to see ancient Rome, and assassinate the Pope just as he says the "amen" on the Nicene Creed (see what they did there?) makes up for the rest of the ending of Assassin's creed II.

I agree. I actually hadn't had much in the way of amazing boss fights. Bayonetta was probably the most recent. The last two are completely manageable, but the very first time you face them, you're wtf'ing so hard.
Still. More ******s bosses would be nice.

As much as I like magic, it wasn't suppose to be in assassins creed im sorry.
That killed like the entire series for me pretty much, they over did it.

Hmm... From recent ones the only challenging ending I've had was in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Satanail was such a pain D;

Modern Warfare 2's ending was just as horrible as the rest of the game. The final boss fight was a damn cut-scene.
I think they should of ended it once you got done in Washington.

There was no magic in ACII. It was just advanced technology from Those Who Came Before.

Most older games have a hard difficulty. And I mean games from around 20 years ago.
You know those games where you get hit once you die and when you die you start all over. They may be generous by giving you a few lifes but you use them up too quickly.
Seems like over the years games have been dumbed down in difficulty except for some games which offer the insane difficulty mode.
I remember how pitiful the FFX last boss was when you could kill him in 2-3 hits.

Mirror's edge.
Great game, but the worst boss fight ever. SPOILERJumping once? Oh god you've got to be kidding me.

I had max sphere grid with Lulu, Yuna and Rikku and in one attack wave I could beat both forms using normal attacks.
The last level of ME2 was pretty epic making sure everyone including Shepard survived.

best boss for cheesing was definately the egg dragon in Lufia 2 (SNES). Throw one healing item on it then damage it for that healing item's restored hp - 1 and he died. The HP would roll over from max possible to whatever your healing item healed for, it definately made that super-boss much easier.

The Emperor on Force Unleased on the hardest difficulty setting was a c**t, Darth Vadar on the otherhand? Far easier.
Also Malak after I found out you could kill the jedi that he drained health, yeah took me a while and I found it by fluke.

Personally, I don't care if a game has some ub0r final boss that takes a million hits to kill and can one shot you, forcing you to start all over again.
I also don't care if a game is a "letdown" because it doesn't have a final boss or not.
The way I see it: if you're playing a game just because you want to have some awsum ub0r hax0r l33t kickass final boss, then you're missing out on 99.9% of the game.
I enjoy games based on their story, not because of their final bosses.
It's why I like most of these games out there now, it's because they DON'T halfass the story and "make it up" with a stupidly hard final boss. They make the game, do a GOOD job on the story, and MAYBE throw an end boss in there. Then people whine about ZOMG NO FINAL BOSS WTFZORS I WANTED TO KEEL IT AND BRAG TO EVERYONE WTF GAME SUXS and I laugh at them.

Also the main boss sometimes is a large portion to the plot of the video game and if all you have to do to defeat the boss is poke it with a stick then that kind of lessens the greatness of the plot.
Fable 2 spoilerz: SPOILERand then you realize the main baddie of fable 2 was an old geezer with no superpowers or anything. It made sense that he died in a single shot. You kill him the same way he kills your sister and tries to kill you.

Well I can understand some plots being ok with a weak boss but not when the game keeps making the last boss out to be some great being.
Also it is a low blow to build up to a climax and then have all the thrill go away in a matter of seconds.

half life 2 didn't even really have a final boss. I loved it anyway.

Xenonight2
Half Life 2s Episodes both ended with an epic boss fight against a Strider, or in HL2s case against a dozen freaking striders, with freaking Hunters guarding them.
The Episode 2 final battle is easily one of my most favorite parts in any video game. Not technically a boss fight, but it still counts.
Also, the Metroid Prime final bosses are so epic and fun.

yeah the episodes both had pretty cool final battles.
I was only talking about HL2 itself, in which there is basically no boss fight, just chasing Dr. Breen upwards and then throwing a few energy balls at the portal thingy, and I'm saying that there's nothing wrong with that.

On mass effect you can kill the hardest form of the final boss by talking to him though!

Liessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I didn't find the boss hard if you had good gear and stuff but it was still pretty tedious with him jumping off walls there and back again.
