I'd like more examples this is just off the top of my head ATM
No actual spoilers in my post expect for videos, but majority of these games are old.
I mean when I say this, lately some games final battle has been letting me down. They don't have that same "oh shit hes still alive!?!?" bullshit like older games.
FF was a pro at last bosses, you never knew when they were dead.
A few of games could have had better ending battles/scenes off the top of my head:
Halo 3 - last level is just fight the oracle and a ****ing car ride :| Fable 2 - good game but nothing epic to fight, just the same troll over and over Fallout 3 - to good for such a boring ending Assassins creed 1-2 - I know you cant do much for a boss but I expect more Oblivion - can't remember exactly just remember it lacked.
In the middle: Boarder lands - fun but easy DOA4 - fun but cheated hard as **** but made you play so hard to win. GTA4 - meh........ Tales of Vesperia - to predictable
Good endings: Mass effect 1 - just barely made this Mass effect 2 - It was easy but soooooooooo fun/cool Call of duty MW:2 - This here be some fast paced action, well for me atleast.
I miss these kinds of boss fights

I'd argue that SPOILERbeing able to see ancient Rome, and assassinate the Pope just as he says the "amen" on the Nicene Creed (see what they did there?) makes up for the rest of the ending of Assassin's creed II.

I agree. I actually hadn't had much in the way of amazing boss fights. Bayonetta was probably the most recent. The last two are completely manageable, but the very first time you face them, you're wtf'ing so hard.
Still. More ******s bosses would be nice.

As much as I like magic, it wasn't suppose to be in assassins creed im sorry.
That killed like the entire series for me pretty much, they over did it.

Hmm... From recent ones the only challenging ending I've had was in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Satanail was such a pain D;

Modern Warfare 2's ending was just as horrible as the rest of the game. The final boss fight was a damn cut-scene.
I think they should of ended it once you got done in Washington.

There was no magic in ACII. It was just advanced technology from Those Who Came Before.

Most older games have a hard difficulty. And I mean games from around 20 years ago.
You know those games where you get hit once you die and when you die you start all over. They may be generous by giving you a few lifes but you use them up too quickly.
Seems like over the years games have been dumbed down in difficulty except for some games which offer the insane difficulty mode.
I remember how pitiful the FFX last boss was when you could kill him in 2-3 hits.

I had max sphere grid with Lulu, Yuna and Rikku and in one attack wave I could beat both forms using normal attacks.
The last level of ME2 was pretty epic making sure everyone including Shepard survived.

best boss for cheesing was definately the egg dragon in Lufia 2 (SNES). Throw one healing item on it then damage it for that healing item's restored hp - 1 and he died. The HP would roll over from max possible to whatever your healing item healed for, it definately made that super-boss much easier.

The Emperor on Force Unleased on the hardest difficulty setting was a c**t, Darth Vadar on the otherhand? Far easier.
Also Malak after I found out you could kill the jedi that he drained health, yeah took me a while and I found it by fluke.

Personally, I don't care if a game has some ub0r final boss that takes a million hits to kill and can one shot you, forcing you to start all over again.
I also don't care if a game is a "letdown" because it doesn't have a final boss or not.
The way I see it: if you're playing a game just because you want to have some awsum ub0r hax0r l33t kickass final boss, then you're missing out on 99.9% of the game.
I enjoy games based on their story, not because of their final bosses.
It's why I like most of these games out there now, it's because they DON'T halfass the story and "make it up" with a stupidly hard final boss. They make the game, do a GOOD job on the story, and MAYBE throw an end boss in there. Then people whine about ZOMG NO FINAL BOSS WTFZORS I WANTED TO KEEL IT AND BRAG TO EVERYONE WTF GAME SUXS and I laugh at them.

Also the main boss sometimes is a large portion to the plot of the video game and if all you have to do to defeat the boss is poke it with a stick then that kind of lessens the greatness of the plot.
Fable 2 spoilerz: SPOILERand then you realize the main baddie of fable 2 was an old geezer with no superpowers or anything. It made sense that he died in a single shot. You kill him the same way he kills your sister and tries to kill you.

Well I can understand some plots being ok with a weak boss but not when the game keeps making the last boss out to be some great being.
Also it is a low blow to build up to a climax and then have all the thrill go away in a matter of seconds.

half life 2 didn't even really have a final boss. I loved it anyway.

Half Life 2s Episodes both ended with an epic boss fight against a Strider, or in HL2s case against a dozen freaking striders, with freaking Hunters guarding them.
The Episode 2 final battle is easily one of my most favorite parts in any video game. Not technically a boss fight, but it still counts.
Also, the Metroid Prime final bosses are so epic and fun.

yeah the episodes both had pretty cool final battles.
I was only talking about HL2 itself, in which there is basically no boss fight, just chasing Dr. Breen upwards and then throwing a few energy balls at the portal thingy, and I'm saying that there's nothing wrong with that.

I didn't find the boss hard if you had good gear and stuff but it was still pretty tedious with him jumping off walls there and back again.

pff, I shot him a few times with my shotgun and he died.
also on that run through I basically skipped every single side quest that would necessitate traveling to other planets.

Boring bosses kind of bring a game down though. It's really anti climatic when the normal enemies you cross paths with in the game are more of a challenge than the massive tentacle monster than pwns "The Albino B@#%!" with a gut pierce to chomp combo.
Odin Sphere had some good last bosses that tied in with the story.
Legend of Zelda: WindWaker to me, has the best Ganon fight ever.
SMT:DDS 2 boss of the main story line was a pansy. Satan, however is not.
Most of the Megaman Battle Network games had good bosses too. The special versions that you fight are no joke.
With Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Momohime had to go up against cooler bosses. Her endgame one is harder IMO.
The World Ends With You had an interesting end game/special boss.

Final Fantasy 10 lacked a boss.
Jetch? Was he a boss? No.
The fight went....(For me)
Kimahri uses Quick Hit.
Kimahri uses Quick Hit.
Jetch dies.
I could of one shotted him, but I only did 45k with Kimahri at the time.
Also, so far. Star Oean 4 (Last Hope) has been giving me a challenging fight here and there...once I fight the last boss...which should be tomorrow..

As much as I thought it was alright, not as terrible as some would say, I couldn't help but have hoped for more from the ending of Resident Evil 5.
SPOILERChris and Wesker have all this hatred and then it ends with a rather tame boss fight. That's if he's even dead.
I think it would have been better to have that fight play out like the one from 4 (Leon Vs Krauser), but much longer.
Oh well.

so it's pretty much your own fault for unlocking the ultimate weapons and superpowering your characters then expecting the main story bosses to have been made for it.
SO4's final boss is challenging....If you haven't superpowered your characters with item creation.
Right. But the thing was...that was my second play through. Tidus, still had that option to Quick Hit, even then hitting for high 6000's. So, by the time he had one turn, Tidus did already 20% of his health, and that boss only hits for 1-2k.
Besides this thread is about "Lame Bosses" Jetch, fits that, excellently. SPOILERThanks for that So4 tip though, I guess I should start doing Side Quests...can I leave Nox Obscurus even though Calnus was destroyed, I see the teleporter...but can I leave EN II??

Metal Gear Solid 4 had an awesome end boss who would touch you in dirty ways if you were on the harder difficulty, especially in the second phase.
As for disappointing...how about Resident Evil 5. Seriously, that was a pathetic excuse for a final boss.
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter was also pretty disappointing. You just abuse the transformation on the first form and then attack the second with your beam of doom.

Yeah...most games these days are sooooooooooo easy and end bosses lack any epicness or difficulty.
Only rly last epic boss fight (not hard) was from MGS4 :-/
in the GOTY of Oblivion Jygglag or w/e how u spell it was pretty hard. For me at least

SPOILERIt did take me two tries. On my first one all my chars were at their 50's, and already after Faize's first form I had used all my ress items and stuff. Then I found out that I have to fight the real end boss Satanail who pretty much killed me in a matter of seconds. On my second try I had leveled all my chars to 60 and gotten a full inventory of items (including pumpkin cures etc). Still, it was a major pain and in the end I had no items left and had already given up (only Edge was alive lulz) when in the middle of a rush combo I got a battle trophy "Defeat Satanail" or somethin. I literally screamed and lul'd at the same time, 'twas so epic. (and yeah I only had a few weak upgrades on my weapons)
Maybe feelings like that are the reason why I really want a challenging end boss in games. Immediately after that I played through Eternal Sonata and I facepalmed so hard after killing the final boss with just a few turns. The ending otherwise was pretty epic tho, I'll give it that.

Dot hack infection moth boss. It was easy kill if you don't do close combat. First few times i tried to dagger the thing, but the fire breath insta kill. All had to do was spam lighting. The annoying part is if you die is game over. You got to run the whole dam dungeon again @_@.
