"Viral Marketing" Sucks. Looking for real people.

And it's hard too. I mean, what is actually expected? Join a forum, post a thread, hope you get some hits? It's not very effective, is it?

I'll admit, I've tried it.

The funny thing is, I'm not here for that. I'm here to genuinely look for the right people to join our game. We're looking for baseball fans, primarily. We're looking for other schmucks just like us, stuck in a cubicle, looking for a 5 minute break from monotonous reality.

I posted a thread in the browser games sub forum, but I don't think it's working. I'd rather find the right people by creating real relationships, because that's what matters to me.

What is the best way to do what I need (building relationships and finding the right people) while balancing against doing what I must (self-promotion)?
