The Shameful "EA" Wants us to PAY for Demos
That's right! the Rich get Greedier and Richer.
What a great role model EA has been over the years, you and I have given them money for there games, made them sh*tload, and now they want us to pay them more! As if we didn't have enough crap from banks and fees! now we got a Massive game company wanting blood money! and they also want us to pay to help them test the bugs out too! I say F U EA!

EA-fags will just give them all their money, happily, and for less and less content every time.
Next we know, every map in a game will cost 15 bucks.
With a 10$/month fee to play online
And each mode is another 12.50$

You'd have to be a complete idiot to pay for a demo.

lol..paying for maps..i think this will never happen. I know there are games with special updates for some money but if you play bf or something like that and you need to pay for every new map the community will rage - fly to ea HQ

they are pouring everything into The Old Republic to stable the ship too... wahahaha

Glad to see EA fails to see the point of demos. Next they'll start charging people to watch advertisements.

Although if EA basically released half the game's multiplayer content and gave you a big discount on the full game I could see this potentially working out.

Reminds me of about 15 years ago in gaming when they use to charge $2.50-$5 for a demo disk of games.

Havn't you seen the 15 dollar add-on for MW2 which adds 5 maps? 2 of which are recycled from previous games? We are already there my friend.

As long as people keep paying for this crap they will keep pumpin it out and upping the price.

I mildly shat myself when they announced that the MW2 map pack would be $15. Hell Battlefield 1943 is only $10 and that is a complete game, not just 3 new maps and 2 referbs.

Electronic Arts tells Kotaku that while they're exploring different downloadable game strategies, they do not plan to charge gamers for "traditionally free game demos."

The clarification comes after word hit via analyst Michael Pachter's visit to Electronic Arts, that the company planned to grow their digital game business in part by release what EA called "premium downloadable content" on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live for $10 to $15. Pachter described that content as "essentially be a very long game demo, along the lines of 2009's Battlefield 1943." The "full-blown packaged game" would later be released at a full retail price.

EA Group General Manager Nick Earl told Pachter during the recent meeting that the strategy would allow the company to limit the risk of marketing the full game and would "serve as a low-cost marketing tool."

Responding to request for comment, EA's Jeff Brown said that the publisher and developer is working on a "number of projects for delivering premium content to consumers before, during, and after the launch of a packaged-goods version of the game."

"EA SPORTS, EA Games and EA Play are each experimenting with download strategies that deliver fresh game content in formats players want to experience," he writes. "To date, there is no set pricing strategy for the entire EA portfolio. And many of the proposals include free-to-play content on models similar to Madden Ultimate Team, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield 1943."

"None of the proposals" Brown wrote, "call for charging consumers for traditionally free game demos."

Speaking at the Game Developer's Conference earlier this month Ben Cousins, general manager of free to play Battlefield Heroes, told a gathering of designers that EA is becoming increasingly interested in free-to-play or "freemium" games

Too much people buy beta keys on ebay, EA noticed that people ''Pay'' around $500 for ''just'' a beta of the game, and they decided to do the same.

It won't be long before EA do start charging for "longer" demos. Mark my words.

Thats because theres a limited amount. Its simple supply and demand.

Unless there are still a limited number of keys, this isn't going to do anything except piss people off.

If they charge for a very long game demo, they'd better make the saves compatible (if the 'demo' starts from the beginning) and give a minor discount on the retail if you decide to buy it.

So far it soudns like you'd be paying for a beta, and then you'd have to pay again for the full game rather than having the price deducted/paying the full price beforehand.

I'd imagine a system like this would be one of those 2 posts above me. either an incomplete game, or a way for a game developer to charge you to test their game. What EA says and what they do never matches up.

It's sad too because EA has been working hard to redeem their name. Then they go and place the same ******ed AC2 DRM on C&C4 and now this crap. There goes any respect that they had built up from me. I think there is a limit as to how far companies can take DLC. They are abusing the concept and are not using DLC for what it should actually be used for.

I have not bought an EA game since Red Alert 3 though. It's just not worth it anymore.

Sounds like a bad idea to me even if it's a "long" demo why pay for it when later you will have to pay $50 to $70 for the full game. Sounds like another cheap gimmick to me.
