Yeah that's exactly what I thought, but I was monitoring the temps and they were normal, then boom it happens, while they're still normal.
*EDIT* I just noticed something....interesting. I booted back into windows again to try and update my graphics drivers, just before the download was finished and I was ready to uninstall my drivers, it crashed with the weird artifacts again! I could still move the mouse, after a few seconds it came back. Then something new happened. Everything kept dissapearing and going black for 5 seconds and then it comes back as normal. It does this over and over and over again every 5 or so seconds. Everything seems to function because I typed something out and moved a window while it was all black and the text was there/window was moved when it came back. Here's what's weird: I had task manager open at the time and I noticed my cpu as the normal 1-5% usage, however after it goes black and come back it's at 100% but only for a split second, everytime. It wasn't the monitor as the backlight was obviously on, it was the computer itself.
And I swear I just noticed some artifacts before I even got to the loading screen which suggests it isn't the drivers. Gaah this is so hard to pinpoint, it could be anything. Cheers guys, any ideas? :(

If your temps are normal or not does not really matter as soon as you have visual artifacts.
Do a check if all plugs are properly plugged in and the gfx card is seated firmly in the slot, if it is, it's failing.
(Why do I keep saying that? Well, there are studies used for testing the reliability of slot-designs and optimization, which show quite startling numbers. The plugs/slots are always a weak-point and bad seating should never be ruled out, especially since checking takes only 15 seconds. It's definitely not as bad anymore as it was some 10 years ago, but it's not a non issue.)

I had that happen with an old 8800gt when it died. Temps stayed normal, but the screen would go nuts similar to what you said. Looks like its time for a new one, but I would also take the chance on possibly swapping out the card with something else if you have an extra just in case its something else wrong.
