I've gotten into it recently. I still haven't had the chance to play it.
So? For those who have played Tennis, is it an easy sport? Is it easy to catch up to?

Easier than Loric.
Easier than ....
Easy to play. Not easy to play well.
easy to....hit the ball
not easy to actually play it right
What do you mean by "play it right"?
My first time playing I was asked to tryout for our tennis team in high school. Easy as hell but boring as f***.
It depends on how much you learn, what you learn, how often you train and what you train on.
Also, some people just...have it. You can LEARN to be really good at football, but you won't be Lionel Messi unless you're born Lionel Messi.
Hm, that's a good way to put it..
I guess I could just practice more.
What put me down is the fact that you have to know where to hit the ball once the opponent serve or returns it.
I'm not good with that.
Tennis may not be my sport, but I'll give it a shot.
you guys got it all wrong, the "easiness" of tennis is relative on how good your opponent is. i was a varsity tennis player in high school. the game never got "easier" as time passed because everyone else on the team that i practiced with got better as well.
a beginner can have a 100 hit rally with another beginner
a pro can have a 100 hit rally with another pro
but when you pit a beginner against a pro, needless to say, its not gonna last very long
things like ball placement and spin are fairly easy to learn. whats hard to learn is using strategy by combining both in varying degrees (ex. slicing the ball at the net, low flat ball to the alley, topspin to the opponent's feet, etc.)
you cant just hit the ball really hard straight on like a baseball bat. thats probably the easiest type of shot to return, all you have to do is stick your racket out at it, not even having to swing.
if you practice every day, you can be quite good at the game. i practiced for a year every day before entering my first USTA tournament, and i got pretty far despite being self taught
I used to take lessons, it's not too hard with practice, as compared to more... refined sports like Table Tennis, I suppose.
The strokes are really not that difficult, you just need the sprinting power and stamina.
Then again this was just me as a kid, against other kids. LOL.
I'm shit at it.
It's boringly easy to play casually, but to be competitive and play it as a serious sport..
Eh..Really hard. It's the same with golf for me, both are VERY fun to just go oh sht let's go play X for a day but not something I'd play to compete because of how hard it can actually be.
Well, my school has a Tennis team so I'm considering joining that.
You guys think if each day I swung my racket about 100 times with no ball, you think that'd help me?
Also, do you swing with your arm or your wrist? I highly doubt you do with the wrist because it could put a burden on it, as for the arm, it just doesn't feel right.
How should I swing my racket?
its better to just practice hitting a ball against a brick wall
if you go to a tennis instructor, he will teach you a certain way to hit the ball, i wouldnt know because im self taught. but what i usually see is after you learn the "basic swing" you eventually change it to your liking and then form an ego and believe that your way is the best way.
my swing uses a completely straight arm from hip height to my left shoulder until it points to about 10 or 11 o'clock, then i bend bend the elbow. an instructor might tell you that this is wrong technique, but i dont give a shit.
Pretty easy to pick up, just make sure the Wiimote is firmly secured to your hand with the wrist strap.
bout as easy as any other sport is to get good at.
just like every sport, practice makes perfect
This thread is making me realize how much I suck at sports. =(
Sorta good at basketball though, so there's that.
How is that ironic?
Have you changed your avatar three times in the past 24 hours?
... Yes.
