Please don't get offended if I insult your favorite band in here. Music is all about opinions, and just because I hate something doesn't mean you can't like it. If we disagree, please just don't post. Thanks! <3
So my buddy listens to the "generic rock" station...I don't know what else to call it. They play a lot of Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Nickleback...all those bands that usually make me wanna puke.
But every once in a while they play a gem that shines through all the crap. Unfortunately, I rarely ever get to hear these songs because I'm not willing to listen to 30 songs I hate for 1 song I enjoy.
Example:
Now that song is BAD ***. I remember listening to this when I was younger (even saw them in concert at the big fest said radiostation puts on each year). It has meaning, it sounds cool, the vocals are nice, etc.
Does anyone else have some other songs like this I'm forgetting about? Songs that aren't quite classic rock but are semi-old and forgotten?
Stuff by Stone Temple Pilots and stuff. Not so much STP, because we all already know of STP...maybe some missed out one hit wonders. The song "No Rain" comes to mind.

not exactly "forgotten gems" because everyone knows these songs, but I like them and I usually hate "generic rock".

Stone Sour - Through Glass, Say you'll haunt me
Alice in Chains - Would?, Heaven Beside You,
REM - Loosing my Religion, (I'm having trouble remembering song names.)
The Tragically Hip - New Orleans is Sinking, Blow at High Dough, Poets
Staind - Outside, Epiphany, So Far Away
They are kind of obscure bands with alot of hits. Around the late 80s to present.

idunno if I'd call Alice in Chains "generic rock'. they were borderline doom metal.
regardless, they kick ***.

Yeah, I was a little confused about what he was asking.
I wouldn't consider disturbed to be generic rock either, though.

Alice in Chains is a perfect example of what I wanted. And the reset of these. Awesome job guys.
I'm not even sure what I mean by "generic rock". Maybe "bands that sound like 100 other bands"?

Don't feel bad. I scar-tattooed AFI on myself when I was younger. It has faded, but still.
Biggest face palm ever. Its incredible how the best band ever degraded into the most wussy band ever. It still makes me sad.
@SS - yeah dude, me too...thats NOT what I was after. I'm after the good songs the stations that play shitty songs like Disturbed on XD

Metallica is not 'generic rock'. Metallica is thrash metal.
Oister, check these guys out and listen for the solo.

Personally, I would call the White Stripes generic IMO. Not so much their sound or style, but it seems like everyone knows a few songs by them.
And yeah, Rolling Stones and the Doors are ****ing great, but they're classic rock. Thats actually the only radio station I tune into. :teeth: Generally, thats the music I play at parties because everyone can agree on it.

The Doors? The Rolling Stones? Really?
Hey, you're back! I missed ya! How's life on the outside? Is everyone still as incompetent as they are online?
Glad somebody said it, by the way.

All I can think of right now is old skater-punk type music, which you already know. :/
