A new introduction video for ArcheAge, as well as the announcement trailer for ArcheAge China.
How do you see the game after watching the video?
Is it a true third generation MMORPG?
Edit: For those who are unfamiliar with the game, it is the first title from Korean studio, XL Games.
The founder of XL Games is Jake Song, creator of NCsoft's Lineage 1. He can be seen in the video as well.
It was developed using CryEngine 2, but was upgraded to CryEngine 3 recently.
The China server will be the 2nd foreign server. but no English server has been announced.

only problem i found watching this video was that even their computer lagged at times. so this game might not be very well optimized.
the graphics looks nice though. just hoping that it is everything it looks like it is.
i wouldn't call it next gen or anything. they are just keeping up with whats already out, would be weird to call it next gen if there's already games with this good graphics out :S

I think the graphics isn't the only thing that makes it 'next gen'. Wasn't there something intricating about its gameplay?

I've been on the fence about ArcheAge since first hearing about it and after the video I am still there. When a game claims to be new and innovative, videos are not enough to feel whether it really is or not. Plus it will probably be years before us westerners get to touch it.

A third -- or maybe fourth -- gen MMORPG for me would have to consist of the following:
Jumping
Climbing (anywhere)
Completely open world (no invisible walls)
Action
Seasons & Weather (where you can see the effects, so if it's winter it snows and the snow stays on the ground, etc)

Dislike the fact that they're proclaiming themselves as a next-generation MMO, every other game that has done that has successfully seemed to disappoint players, and there's really no clear-cut features I see in this game that redefines the genre.

Other than the cryengine 3
this game is going to be 2/3 sandbox. NO leveling, just skills..you can build houses anywhere, and etc.
pretty good if you ask me

I'm a sucker for graphics honestly, but what also interests me is the world changing effects that players can cause to the world. Player housing is also a plus as always.
I won't be disappointed if it's not considered a "next gen" MMO by the audience or myself actually. It's just a title in my opinion.

Ugh it's free? Anyways what defines a true 3rd gen MMORPG?
In my opinion it looks pretty but I didn't really pay attention to the trailer (or whatever) because well it seems like just another Korean made game to me. And I am truly sick of Koreans and their developing skills.

Well, despite your sarcasm. Thats generally what sandbox games are. Sadly you've probably never stepped foot from a generic game to tell the difference. :hmm:

I squint and scoff at you. GOOD SIR!
Do not assume that I have never played a sandbox game.
I just feel like the hype here amounts to "Oooh it's pretty and OMG Sandbox! Somebody bring the pails and shovels!".

Creating and destroying the persistent world is what we haven't seen since UO/SWG. I'm truly excited if they can pull it off.
In the end, the more power you give to players, the more dynamic a mmorpg gets.

Looks like a Korean version of Wurm. The real question here is how in depth the terraforming is.

Looks like fun but wouldn't call it 3G. To me 3G will happen when you'll be able to control your char with your thoughts through some head device or s h i t ;D With full voice support where you have to actually TALK to NPCs.
Now that's revolutionary!

even if they did that they still use the old crappy realtime turnbase system for there combat
revolutionary game play would change the combat system let you jump over emeny like ninja and let you cut emeny throat not target system that lock on. let you hit many emeny at once not a AOE attack

Still a big difference between revolutionary and complicating. Good ideas can still have bad side-effects.
