Wonder why they didn't consider going F2P instead of shutting it down completely, oh well.
Hell, is about this.
Lineage = 1998
Ragnarok = 2002
Quite a difference.
I remember the hype when it came out lol. (makes me feel old :hmm: )
Sadly i never got into the game.
Still probably not worth the investment by NCsoft. The artists and software engineers needed to this could be better allocated to newer projects that would garner a larger profit than remodeling a 12 year old game that has a slim chance of gaining some popularity in an already flooded F2P market.
I guess you all just made sense.
And yeah profit is very important in this economy.
Will there be a Lineage 3? Or 4 or 5?
There was rumored to be a Lineage 3 in the works, but they are currently working on what is essentially a graphical upgrade and combat revamp of Lineage 2. Not counting further working on Aion, Blade and Soul, and probably a few other games I am forgetting about.
TERA was based on Lineage 3's concept, hence the big lawsuit and stuff between the 2 companies~
and once again NCsoft proves to be the biggest shit game company in the world. they can stick their guildwars 2 up their asses, im not buying any title from them ever again for sure. everything they own gets shut down a few years later anyway.
yet another game they can add to the list of 'shut down because of greedy ****s'.
Had a long and fulfilling life, one that MMO's of this age in its majority won't even come close to touch.
It's sad but it's also a warrior's long deserved rest.
Cool! I was never able to find the original Lineage homepage!
Ultima online is still running, and it was released in 97. xD
NC soft is not a charity organisation so of course all they will look out for is the $$$. You arn't going to continue to invest in anything if there isn't a good return on investment. They also have to look after their shareholders, if the company is making a loss they won't have any investors for developing new games or to put money into current games which means no games at all.
I think Lineage was at the end of the product life cycle in which no amount of innovation would revive it, its usually this time alot of companies would milk the product clean which NC soft isn't doing. Their giving 2 months of free play and hosting events too. Auto assault is one of the games I believe was a mistake to shutdown on their part but the others couldn't compete on the MMO's market which is already flooded. In this type of competition a company will only run its product if its making a financial profit or break even with its cost otherwise they would shutdown the product to avoid the ongoing costs.
Guys, if you read what the article says, it bascially is gunna be free till they close down servers. Its not gunna be F2P forever...
I used to play this hardcore.. its so sad to see it go. :(
Neverwinter nights = 1991
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwi...%28AOL_game%29
Well that was the first graphical mmo
sad to see lineage 1 go down though, was a fun game
Sad. Was my first MMO ever. Started beta back in 1999. Lot's of good memories of what was a damn good game.
Too bad they're just killing it off instead of going F2P.
they can get a good return on investment if they would update their darn games for once, but instead they release half complete, half broken pieces of shit that could have been awesome, like tabula rasa and auto assault for example. anyway im going offtopic here since its about lineage which had its time. i was just pissed to see yet another game got shut down by ncfail so that gave me reason to bash them some more lol.
Hmm to bad.. never got to try this one.
Actually im more interested about the upcoming content patch for L2. Goddess of Destruction or how it was called again.
Also if you read what Cinderboy posted, it clearly states that no new accounts can be created. It will be only f2p til they shut down the server for the people that already have accounts for this game.
Ultima Online is still strong, wonder how long that has now.
I mean Lineage 1 and UO... were like... there.
R.I.P Lineage 1.
Lineage 1 is the grand-father of all current MMORPG's. Never again will a game have a PK/PvP System and Boss/Item or Leveling system as lineage had.
Only game where you could PK someone and get an item that nobody in the world has and you could sell for $5000.
Its one of the only hardcore MMORPGS that was still around, it wasnt meant for carebears.
Hell there used to be a time when at lvl 49 you would get 1% EXP per 1-2hours if you grinded non stop, and if you died? Well you lost 5 or 10%.
Was an amazing game! One of the best sellers in the world and still going strong in Korea, which proves that Gameplay > Graphics and Fancy Signs.
One of the games where killing bosses actually meant either camping for a week to get a time or controlling boss whenever it spawned.
This game still has bosses that have never been killed even by the whole server.
All games these days are made for cry babies who complain about everything and all items are the same.
This is some bad bad news, luckily theres a great private server out there run by a good guy (Zajako) who did alot of mods to it, hopefully NcSoft lets him run his server officially with their blessing.
Jake Song is a legend and creater of the best game (imo) that has ever been made. Too bad Lineage 3 source code was stolen by the makers of TERA.
Will we ever see such a game where it actually takes patience/hard work/time to achieve something? Where a +9 item is a one of a kind and priceless? Where you can PK someone out of your Cloak of Invisibility and if he is chaotic he can drop his items? How about the weekly Castle Sieges with 50v50 non stop action with half the people dropping their stuff/going broke.
The downfall of Lineage was opening LOA and Carebearing it up by slowly putting in carebear rules such as lower XP death, cant drop items, etc etc.
One of only games with no level cap and even in korea nobody even close to reaching it since it will take like 50 years of grinding 24/7.
RIP Lineage!
