I think they're on my top 10 list of favorite bands for sure.
And I know they are pretty popular. I've even heard the really shitty local radiostation play their stuff once or twice.
Yet, I hardly hear anyone talk about them.

maybe because it sounds like complete garbage.
Probably because alot of people haven't actually heard any of their music.
why dont more people like Jazz Fusion?
oh yeah thats right, people like different kinds of music.
Answered. Trashed.
No one knows who they are?
dont like it because to much metal music
I more meant people who are into that type of music to begin with.
And whats not to like about Mastodon if you DO like metalish music? They have pretty original lyrics, and an original sound. The music itself seems pretty technical (from my zero knowledge of music standpoint) and it doesn't have some whiney emo femboy on vocals.
I'm not trying to start shit, just wondering what it is people dislike about them if they know them?
Meh some songs are alright, but the rest sounds like hes puking from sea sickness.
Arri metal and screamo are different. Screamo = punk. Just cause metal has screaming/growling/extreme vocals in it doesn't mean it's punk. just clearing up, its a common misunderstanding xD.
Mastodons new album doesn't have harsh vocals on it. The Metal Purists like it and it seems appropriate sounding for radio play. Yeah oister, mastodon is a progressive metal band but some of their songs pretty much bore me. Hard Rock stations pretty much stick to cookie cutter bands.
I'd like to hear their songs on the radio though, they don't live to far for where I'm from in Georgia.
Think you're confused there a little bit. Punk is not screamo and screamo is not punk. My history may be a little off here but hardcore punk transgressed into post-hardcore in the late 70's/early 80's. Post-hardcore then branched off into emo music. There is still a clear difference between the two genres - just listen to post-hardcore pioneers Fugazi and emo bands like My Chemical Romance.
what i meant to say is that the term screamo was meant to categorize those bands and not metal bands, my bad.
All bands with loudish vocals have earned the title "screamo" in the past few years. Its become a broad term that covers vocals of all intensity beyond normal singing.
Not a correct term, but a broadly used one these days :)
(No hate at Arri, just explaining :])
Why don't more people like Joanna Newsom?

Only heard that one album, One-Eyed Milk Monster or something. I dunno, her voice just bugged me through the whole thing.
but emo isnt even anything
I thought Mastodon was a comedian.. My bad.
I don't like them because I think they're boooring :-/
no, really, I've tried to listen to them, but every time I'd find myself zoning out and thinking about other things, and then when I started paying attention to the music again, half an hour had passed.
you should listen to, idunno, Eyehategod instead
Mastodon <3.
