What ideals? Democracy, freedom of speech etc? I mean poverty and a constant life of fear sounds much better to me as well!

Its far from over. Just because a leader died doesn't mean the war is over. Look at Iraq, Saddam Hussein is dead yet American troops are still on its soil. The Libyan rebels consists of different tribal groups all with their own agendas theres not going to be peace in that region for a while.

I am an American and in my own opinion, we have no business in these other countries. We have our own problems to deal with. I know a good bit of the reason is a mad dash for oil, but that is selfish and ignorant. We need to go back to our policy of tending to ourselves unless it can somehow effect us. As stated before, we have plenty of our own problems to solve and correct before doing anything else in other countries...

when the partying dies down and people return to their normal lives they will realise that the struggle over what remains, the fights amongst those who want to claim power, will be far worse than the "revolution".

i feel sorry for them because there will be lots of high hopes floating about ready to be dashed into peices.

Actually the rebels could become dictators, they didn't actually win the war, NATO did, with all their bombings in the "no fly zone" which crippled Gaddafi's forces leaving the rebels to have an easier job on the ground. Now they have the backing of a powerful ally they could do what they want and America has in the past supported dictators eg Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

I can agree to a point, but they are third world countries because they can't solve their own problems. Now does that mean first world countries should intervene and lend a helping hand? I can't answer that question with an absolute answer because it really depends on the circumstances. If that countries issues have the potential to overflow their borders and effect/harm other countries then yes we should. If they are just gonna stew in their own filth and the issues wont harm other countries then we should just let them stew in their own filth.

Imprinting your own society's rules, values and norms onto another via assassination and war-starting is not 'fixing'. No matter how morally questionable the way they do things is, so long as they're not invading anyone else (Ala WW2 Germany) or committing genocide it is not your place to decide how other countries should live their lives. Doing so is almost akin to totalitarianism, and conflicts directly with freedom of both speech and ideas.

"Do things my way, or we'll march our troops all over your land." Way of the future, huh?

Not that these wars are being started for anything other than profit. No war, no military, no money from keeping that military running.
