Star Wars Galaxies. Played it for 4 years from 2004 to 2008. No other game has held me for that long before or after. I'm hoping Star Wars: The Old Republic will do it for me though. And maybe DC Universe Online, I'm gonna try it once it goes free to play.
The last? LaTale. Why did I quit? Everyone that I knew/played with started quitting. Grinding without people you are friends with = super boring and pointless.
The games I have played for the longest time? Uh, either UO or Runescape, for 2+ years. I'm still looking for a game that can pull me in like UO or Runescape did back then.
Currently, I'm playing wow, its been a bit more than a year, before that, Ragnarok, I played it more seriously for about 3 years then 2 years on and off on random servers. I still play for fun sometimes
Now that I think about it I stopped playing World of Warcraft for the same reason I stopped playing Guild Wars. I did buy the first Expansion though. Stopped playing when the next one was announced. I could not see myself buying expansion after expansion as well as paying monthly. The expansions split up the community too. Meanwhile free mmo's update all the time.
Lately I have not stuck with any games for long. For one of these reasons or a combination of them. I get bored of the combat or quest. I feel I have pretty much seen all the game has to offer. Or I get to the point where I don't level fast enough and it starts feeling like work. Feels like there is no reward for playing.
So now I check the forums every day waiting for some new game to hit open beta. Right now I really want to play The Secret World and Path of Exile.
I think the only game I ever quit for being too good was Guild Wars. I was literally staying up till 6am my senior year of high school because I was on a particularly successful run in the Hall of Heroes.
I'm really hoping TERA grabs my attention because I fear the addiction that Guild Wars 2 might wreck on my life >:(
Vindictus, got a 66 karok and a 65 lann took forever but i mainly played that game cause of friends and stuff, Left as my friends began leaving
Also WoW got 2 80s and a couple 60s Left because cataclysm came out
Lastly City of Heroes long time ago i hit the cap i cant even remember what it is, left because i wanted to play WoW
and runescape was the first mmorpg i played so i played that game for longer than 9 months aswell, Truth be told i was young enough and stupid enough to give out my password so there ya go
Most recent was Vindictus of course
Longest I played was Granado Espada. Still playing it though ^^;
Prior to WoW it was a couple years each of UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, Horizons, and FFXI for the most part.
Played WoW for 6 or so years.
Since then GW a bit over a year and Vindictus about 4 months now.
Bored at the moment since I did all of the Vindictus content a couple months ago and each update has given me maybe 6 hours or so of more content.
I wish that Guild Wars 2 was ready so I could either CBT it or play it as Gold.
For now just testing some games mainly to help out and pass time.
FFXI, around 2 years ago.
Stopped playing the game because my LS (aka Guild) started doing a bunch of endgame runs, which I utterly despise. What actually made me play the game (for about 5 years, I think) were the social aspects of it. Unfortunately the LS started getting obsessed with gear runs and whatnot (WoW mind), instead of doing events together like we used to.
Currently waiting for GW 2 and not playing anything else in the meantime.
Still Lineage 2, four years with this shit :D
Conquer Online, was on that for about 5 - 6 years XD
It's the only game i've ever truly played long term.
I have been playing ACE online, for a long time now.... Best mmo out there in terms of being unique!
I'd say Rose Online would be my longest played game. Probably put a good 3-5 years into it.
Lineage 2 and Ragnarok are probably close to being tied for second with thousands of hours into each over the years.
After that it would be a toss up between WoW and Mabinogi.
I stuck with Vanguard from beta to release to downfall (and I still mourn it to this day), greatest game EVER. After that, nothing. Because nothing compares to Vanguard... I do play some League of Legends though but only 1 or 2 games per day then it gets boring.
Man, why does SOE suck so much at advertising? :( That and why do they suck so much at listening to the community? They friggin' merged like 4 servers (the best 4) into one big shitstorm of Free for all PVP with 12 year olds camping gravestones and respawn points.. Before the merge, the server I was on had 1500+ on at peak hours and it was a faction based PvP server (much like horde vs alliance on WoW except it was open and you could take over whole towns because guards didn't one hit you). After the merge, you'd think the population would increase but it actually went down, by a lot. After 1 week or so the FFA pvp server was a ghost town and the people who played faction pvp didn't like PvE so they left and forgot about the game. We had ~100+ members in our guild, 5 of those stuck with PvE.
Fuck you, SOE. FUCK you.
