So I don't read the news but apparently a whole bunch of states and provinces have been hit by power outages. I think that even though it sucks for mainly everyone except some flashlight makers, and that people were sort of expecting this sort of thing (recall the y2k and now 2012 hype). The sad thing is that 2012 is not about an apocalypse, but really just the backlash of us exploiting the environment in the form of higher and higher magnitudes of natural disasters. I would not be surprised if a worse disaster occurred within the next decade, but League of Legends servers are still running and therefore it is Not the end of the world :)
