Smaller screens means the components on the inside need to be smaller for the same specs, mainly the motherboard design. That's why 17.3" laptops are sometimes less expensive. Also it's easier to manufacture a large screen at the same pixel dimension because your capacitors can be further apart.
I've had a msi gt627 for 4 years now that's held up pretty well. MSI is good at components but the hinges on my laptop wore out and fixing it myself cost an arm and a leg because it was out of warranty. I think a lot of newer laptops are starting to integrate keplar graphics on top of ivy bridge which should give you the juice you need to run games.
