I do find that high-budget MMOs tend to be higher-quality.
And DAoC was one of the first games to do realm vs realm properly. There will be so many disappointed fans if this does not get funded. Good luck guys!

Not my type of game but impressed with the backing for this game so far.
All the best.
Interesting, i hope they succeed and for them to have a no helm view option with many hair styles available.
Too bad it will be p2p but if its worth it i guess i might play it, i honestly prefer f2p with cash shop :teeth:
I hope the game doesn't get funded, and this a-hole quits trying to make games.. He's totally backwards on how the future of MMORPGs will end up. He feels that F2P will only last a couple more years before it ends up failing and P2P takes over again. The guy is living behind a smokescreen..
He also feels that many people are freeloaders, since so many people just play and expect everything to be handed to them.
I also don't like his attitude about how he makes his games.. He has some sort of superiority alpha male type stuff going on. He feels he deserves the funding because he is the best game maker ever, and has a huge reputation. News flash.. Dark Age of Camelot wasn't super popular, even to this day.. At least Richard Garriott has proof that his Ultima series was actually successful, and he's very honest about the ways he develops his games..
Not only that, but Garriott is actually an interesting guy, and a semi-philanthropist.
I predict that if Camelot Unchained does get funded, it will most likely take this d-bag a while to make the game, and by then everyone will have lost interest, and the population in the game won't be very big.
My opinion: I hope he fails, big time.
I highly doubt Camelot Unchained will be the game to revolutionize the industry. Yeah, it has a good engine and some of the ideas don't entirely suck, but that's not enough. We need a game that can go further than that and this isn't the game. I think it will be met with mediocre success and be surpassed regardless of whether the Kickstarter succeeds or not. Must I remind everybody of how much Warhammer Online sucked? He's a guy that hasn't accomplished anything worth mentioning in 12 years asking for your money...
I honestly have higher hopes for Everquest Next, than for CU, and I don't have to pay them to make it either.
A donation for this guy's game is a step backwards in the MMO community. This guy is stuck in the late 90s/early 00s.. Research has shown that most F2P games have a higher potential to and DO make more money than a P2P game. If anything, B2P is the way of the future. Garriot's game is going to be B2P. Down with CU! Down with the backwards-ass developer who feels he is ENTITLED to your money!
I really was hoping he'd make it, the game appeals to me a lot.
I can't help but have a funny and bad feeling about CU.
This guy somehow... I don't like him. There's something weird about him. Notice how he points out all those stupid games at the very beginning of his introduction video like he thinks he's the shit? I dont like that. If he was "that known" people would recognize him without himself mentioning that crap explicitly.
Anyways, I dont actually care if it gets funded or not. But I do believe that even if it gets funded, many people will end up being disappointed and with less money that they spent on a project that SOUNDED great IN THEORY.
Depends what measure you are using for 'success.' I personally am glad this game is just barely on the verge of funding as this style of game would only work with a tiny consistent community in which you know the rest of your realm on a name or at least clan basis.
Ideally the entire community will play on one server with no channels and be successful enough to pump out a few expansions going into the future.
That said I'm just bitter at how little the industry has changed since I started this job in 2011 and really want to see a series of smaller kickstarter MMOs shake up the publishers and make them react and start adopting new concepts. Since this one has more eyes watching it than most, all the better to make a statement with it. I can only make interesting articles about MMOs for so long when an innovative feature gets introduced maybe once a year.
Virtual reality will be the revolution of the industry. But Dizzy, I disagree with the "Little change in the industry". MOBAs took over pretty big change. Now for MMORPGs, there has been technically a "change". Now I know what you're thinking, but I'm talking there has been a lot of small changes. That when you add them up it's a change, Instances became more of a fashion, RvR is more accessible, Action games are in a bundle now. Come on man, there's a change. Just not the way you wanted it.
The last game that tried to be DAOC launched with a multitude of game breaking issues. The game was never patched afterwards(for the most part)
but, As i said in the other thread There are going to be 2 kind of people
1)The true fanboys
2)The purists
They got the money.
Ball's in your court, Mark Jacobs. Don't disappoint these people. I held my cash because I loved DAOC, but I'm still skeptical.
I will say, though, that this livestream is rather emotional. These folks are crying based on the support. That's pretty dope. Hope that they make something that lives up to the hype.
I wonder if the people who backed this game will feel regret when the game comes out bad. Or if they'll just shrug their shoulders. Because I'm getting the feeling that the game will fail more than it will succeed. You can just see how it's going to turn out by just listening to the guy. Unless he's really set out on making the game a success it won't succeed. Seems like he's just doing this not because he wants to realize his own vision, but taking advantage of a group of people who want to play such a game. Only time will tell though, I hope it goes well. Then everyone involved would be happy.
The project funded about 2 hours or so ago. Now it's funding stretch goals for the next 18 hours. Looking forward to Alpha starting next year.
They DID IT!!! w00t!!

Can you hear the people sing? Can you? I can.
@Bryan I wouldn't want the kind of pressure that studio has on their shoulders right now. This fanbase is insane. He shouldn't upset them or this will be the last game of MJ's career.
That's great! Seeing as how Darren loves this idea, I'm looking forward to seeing how it actually plays. I tend to wait until I actually see the game before judging.
The idiot got his funding.. Now he can make a crap game and rake in the money for him and his cohorts. >.>
i dont really agree with the way he got the money but i can understand why it was such a good idea for them to do it that way im a gamer and im really tired of seeing the same old crap we should all be happy that a game with innovative ideas is being developed if everything works out and dosent get dumbed down i could see myself enjoying this game stop being negative at least have some hope that it works out and becomes a great game who knows this could be a nice stepping stone that makes way for more innovative ideas
son of a.. they added this so it became 210k https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/...jpg?1367454191 MUST ARCHER
indie games seems like future of gaming
lets see what results will bring these kickstarters games :)
People donated 2 million to fund .. this??
