The video is funny, but it's too bad there are so many trolls and dumbos in the comment section.

To expand further on the controversial sentiments, I don't like when couples say "we're pregnant" either, even before I rose to claim feminism. Men cannot physically be pregnant, and I feel the statement also detracts from what the woman experiences, and subconsciously decreases the respect and understanding for her experience. I think the more appropriate and accurate phrase would be "we're expecting" or "we're having a baby."

The word "pregnant" does not encompass every interchangeable term for "team." It means carrying a child within the womb. So no, he's not pregnant. She is.

It's not even biologically correct, nor does it imply partnership is any stronger than saying "My Wife/Gf/partner/spouse/etc is pregnant".

It's kind of dumb to say to be honest. And I wouldn't say it's said even "somewhat frequently" either. Most of the people I know who've had kids or are having them never say that.

I have heard it before, but it's rather uncommon. It just sounds like something someone is trying to push to be PC for something really insignificant. The fact that many men audibly claim they are about to raise a kid with their female partner is just fine. This shouldn't even be an issue.

I've heard some of my family members and friends use it in such context. Its frequency may depend on where you live and how often you speak to pregnant women and fathers of unborn children.

I'm sorry but while I can understand that the frequency of that phrase might vary, the context in which it's used, from what I've seen, has always been because some women don't like it when men say that "they" are pregnant because they think it implies that the father had no part in the process. It has never been because men don't feel like they are being included.

I really hate to sound sexist on this, but that's some shit that women say, not men. Women have pushed that concept onto men and some have gone with it or are supportive of the idea, but it's not something that men have been pushing for to be added to our socially acceptable vocabulary folders.

I've never heard a man say we're pregnant before. The only context I can remember it in is hearing an excited mother to be say it while the dude stood there looking as dumb and lost as ever, but with a smile.

Even if I heard a dude friend say that I wouldn't be offended. I would laugh in his face for saying it stupidly, but I don't think it takes away the significance of pregnancy. The guy is more or less completely useless to the baby until it's born...it's important to make him feel included too.. I mean it's half his fault.

I am not offended by people having kids. I just don't like when people say "we're pregnant" because that's not physically possible. It has nothing to do with my like or dislike of the pregnancy or the people involved with the pregnancy.

There is a separate word for what happens when your sperm dances with her eggs, fertilization. Which leads to the female becoming pregnant.

On a side note; just say ''we fertilized'' I would love to hear and see peoples reactions.

I might point out "No, you're not, your wife is.", depending on how many "infraction" the person in question has in terms of butchering the "art of communicating like a reasonable person", but it's very context specific to be sure.

In this context though, we're having a discussion which aborts any attempt at a specific context, and are therefore talking about the general sentiment. As a general sentiment, I would rather people tried to use language in a manner that makes sense.

When I was talking about throwing a fit I had the video from the OP in mind.

The "language ought to be used right" idea doesn't really convince me. Language in my point of view is an imaginary toolbox with infinite tools to pull out from. There is no "right or wrong" language. Whatever is effective, works.
Thank goodness it does, because otherwise we would be forced to use guttural sounds from the caveman times to communicate. It's not even possible to read Beowulf today, because there is no resemblance between old English and modern English at all. That's because the concept of using language "right" or "wrong" shows a naive idea of how language works. Words and meanings don't have a set strict definitions that logically binds them to represent reality in a rigid way.

Pregnant as Google shows conveniently simply means "before birth" (prae + gnasci). That's the root of the word. It's also why actually it can be used by everyone, without limiting it to being physically child-carrying.

Now it gets funny though:
"Gnatsci" is just a different form of natus. In truth, woman can't be pregnant, only the unborn can be. It is Woman who took the possession from the child. Your idea that pregnant means "carrying a child" is a false approbation already.
