How you any idea how such a battle system would impact things like party dynamics and materia use, much less how many enemies they'd have to cut because they wouldn't work in the real-time environments of the game? They'd literally have to scrap tons of game-play elements, or redesign the entire game to work with that battle system which increases the likelihood of the game ending up in development-hell like FF13Versus was before it become FF15.
If this is true, it's horrible news.
