Is the ocean alive?

I learned in school that life is has do be able to do five of the following: regulate its internal environment, be composed of cell(s), transform energy, grow, adapt to the environment, respond to stimuli, and reproduce. So except for the cells and the transforming energy, a religion is "alive". As are animal colonies such as a Siphonophora and an ant colony, or a human city. Dead animal cells that are reanimated by virus DNA can also be considered alive.

I think there are varying degrees of sentience and intelligence. For example, it would be fine if all of life on Earth were wiped out by a vastly superior intellect, but it wouldn't be fine if two species of similar intelligence began waging war against each other. How similar? Well, the ratio of your intelligence to said alien that you don't want to be murdered by is the ratio of prey to predator that you should respect when choosing a diet. It would be ironic if a hivemind alien species subjugated Earth and gave rights to cities but not to humans.

Another thing that just caused me to twitch is how you say:

Have you ever felt, seen, heard, or measured sentience in any way? Leaving aside that the abstract concept of it is entirely binary, everything you say is just metaphysical hogwash.
(I'd like to add that I did actually try to follow your path of thinking and check if it goes somehwere, but it doesn't. Just like the video you posted isn't scientific, but basic misguided home-cooked pilosophy. See either the world is parted into things that are alive and things that are not (dead), or the word "alive" is a nonsense word. Now calling it that would be more enlighened than everything else, once you go into that direction. Let's assume we would agree that the word isn't always useful. That gets us somewhere. Calling everything alive is absurd and unsound.)

I've measured sentience by checking if organisms exhibit a sense of touch, a sense of companionship, and can emulate self-awareness. Each one inferring a different degree of sentience. As for intelligence, I've checked if organisms have a nervous system, have a brain, can reach logical conclusions, are self-aware, or can solve complex problems (like a math problem, since every problem can be expressed through math).

Ocean is alive thing it give life to the world. If you didnt have the Ocean then nothing would grow on this rock

Tree came from the Ocean look at planets with no water. there no plants growing.


First thing came from the Ocean was plants then plants evolve into water base life form then evolve into land walker

Plants are building block evolution. Some people who eat only plants dont understand plants are living life from and has feel and can die. but people think it ok to hurt them because they don't show emotion. But i guess it ok hurt someone that born with no emotion if your follow that logic.

You can have water without oceans. Like puddles, lakes, seas, bubble baths, etc.

But in the end, all you do amounts to accepting a stone as sentient, just because someone wrote "hi I am sentient" on it?

(I just think sentience should be left out of it. Treating it as a valid part of a theory just leads towards further misconceptions. No one has a clue, what sentience is, where it comes from, what it implies, etc. You automatically arrive at very relative statements with it like the one you introduced with "I think". It's either I think, or I know. No matter what anyone thinks, no one knows jack about sentience. It really is completely in the dark.)
