Anyone else dont mind what kind of control style it is?
The only games i play are wasd and arrow keys =/ i play clicking type of games some times
I don't mind, speaking.
I think WASD should be the "new-era-of-gaming"
Instead of Point and Click.
I'm not sick of point and click, per se'
Actually, I don't like point and click but I like being able to move with the
mouse, like hold one mouse button down and move.
But it'd also be cool to include both keys and mouse as a choice of movement.
Its funny because i felt tha same exact way today!
i was playin.. uhh ME and i was like- i cant stand not moving with the WASD
keys. Its like im too used to WoW but at the same time im still playin Rappelz (i really like it).
This is why i cant wait for Ragnarok 2!!! WASD keys~!~!~
I agree 100%, I think WoW's WASD movement is the best, better than RYL by a long shot. You hold both mouse buttons down and your character runs WTF!? YEAH! and you can move the character by moving the friggin mouse while hes running. Damn, WoW is so well implemented, wish I had the money to play the real thing, and not the ahem, other thing.
I can play either way.
But, I am sure if this poll was translated to all languages, you will find that more players prefer point and click over WASD.
1. Keyboard model- some regions have a different set-up for thier keyboards than we do.
2. Access options- again, certain regions accessability to a PC for MMO are not as easy as those like the US. Some places have to play their MMOs on a Console style looking PC.
3. WASD is recent application to MMORPG. New applications takes time to become universal.
4. There is still more people who prefer point and click over WASD.
Here is one thing you got to think about. You blame koreans for all the typical grinding point and click MMORPGs out there. In reality your blaming western society. The just really repeated what someone in the US already did, you know, that famous point and click single player game with the online playing options..... I think it was called Diablo? It started it all.
Blame yourselves. If you didnt make Diablo so popular that the koreans had to try it out, none of you would have been introduced to Korean MMORPGs.
Question, compared to the Western market in online MMORPGaming. Who is more successful? Korean MMORPG market or Western MMORPG market?
I mean total profit of the genre, not just a single game.
o_O
I see I see.
Now that you said that, I might wanna play WoW o_O :D:D

If this was me 4-5 months ago i'd say I wouldn't even look at a game if it was point & click..but not anymore. I mean, it is some sort of a set back, but it doesn't ruin a good game for me. I remember trying out Silkroad for the first time and uninstalled it after 2 minutes in the game because I found out you couldn't move with WASD...well I came back 2-3 months later to give it an actual go and actually enjoyed the point & click movement feature far more than the arrow keys sometimes
So yeah...I don't really mind, WASD is always a plus, but i'm used to point & click too now so it doesn't really make much of a difference whether or not a game has WASD or not. I'd imagine a lot of these foreign mmorpg would be more popular if WASD was programmed into them though. Archlord was a pretty good example...people hyped over it partly because it was a foreign MMORPG with WASD, but too bad the WASD control in that game is totally screwed...
I don't have a problem with Point and Click, but it gets WAY too repetitive in my opinion. There are some PnC games that aren't like that, but that's why I didn't like Rappelz. It got to a point where you just sat there doing the same thing over and over again. I mean, WASD/arrow key games are like that as well (Maple grinding anyone?) but it still makes you feel as though you are the character, and not just some kind of God controlling the character.
I loved Diablo, and I'm glad I influenced the Korean's to start making games. If not, then what good MMOs would we actually have?Quote:

i dont really mind the controls when playing games.
some are costomizable so thats cool.
WASD normally for games like rakion, gunz, etc
WASD is the ONLY way to go.
LOL, I seen those noobs all the time. I was a hunter that never used a pet in PvP areas. All I do is run straight at them, wing em, get a bit of distance, then pelt them with arrows.
Repeat. It always worked and those so called PvPers are useless. I hated those who would run around you too assuming you cant target them. Its simple, press target closest.
WASD does not improve your gameplay in PvP. Its just another feature that is applied to a game to make the target audience comfortable with a game. I know it doesnt improve your PvP play cause jump feature only does one thing, allows you to jump the rock in front of you as opposed to point n click around it. Nothing else. You do not have an edge is everyone has it as well.

1. Korean market has console, handheld and PC games. They had access to the Nintendo system before we did( overseas NES= Famicom). You dont know much about tech do you? The console like devices I was talking about are pre-made PCs that you would find in cyber cafe and the likes. They are a monitor, a horizontal desktop casing, mouse and keyboard. Kinda like the old MAC Apples like the Apple IIe.
2. Korea is in the lead when it comes to technology relating to communications. They have been up in the lead with many other nations when it relates to tech. They have a good sense of business on thier shoulders as well. If it make profit, it stays.
If its not busted, dont fix it. They will continue using WASD in their games just because you( consumer) is still playing them. This goes back to the popularity. Why would they invest in something that makes no profits. Yes, you do start seeing it in thier MMO, but its a "side" feature, nothing else. For the toony styles of some of the MMOs that are coming out. Blame a successful game called Harvest Moon for this. SO, profits is what makes them do things. If the profits are not there they move on. Thats why they are leading in data communications. From from digital cell phones to broadband networking, the Korean daa communications company are the ones to partner up with if you want solutions, business proves this.
3.Now as for popular MMOS out there. Well lets take a look. We have Guild Wars( Arena Net was created by NC Soft in S. Korea), Silk Road, Knights Online( K2, same people who brought you Warrock), Ragnorok, ROSE, and a handful of others.
Popular MMO that are not Korean; Rhyzom, WoW, CoH, CoV.
Now, as I was saying. Majority(50%+) of the MMORPGs that come out are from S. Korea. There are more successful online gaming companies that originated in Korea than what the Western market has for MMO games. Still at #1 gaming gaming company is NC Soft. Was announced last date of the last quarter. Blizzard is behind by 3 placements. The other 2 online gaming companies that are ahead of Blizzard are also Korean companies.
4. Saying the gaming industry is failing in Japan is a joke. This is 100% false. Gaming market in Japan has went up 3 folds compared to western market. If you want to know whats coming to the western market you just have to go to Japan and walk the streets(techwise). The gaming market is thriving over in Japan. They are more or less moving from the single player console types to the MMO genre of play. Thats why you finally see Nintendo actually implementing online play to thier Wii. Western Market gaming ideal never really hit well in the Eastern gaming habits. Now if you read up, you will see that Japan and S. Korea companies are actually partnering up to creat some MMO games for the gaming consoles. Most are targets for Wii, Sony Playstation and Xbox360 are somewhat bleh in Japan market.
Now lastly. Guild Wars was created cause NC Soft wanted to target the western gamers. So, Arena Net was created, to study and create a game that targets the western gamer.
You really dont read up on whats new or real. Eastern gaming companies succeed where Western gaming companies have failed. Listening to the consumer. They do know that WASD is becoming a thing, but its popularity in percentages is very low compared. Like anything out in the eastern market, they wait till there is a real demand.
They have strict guidelines one how they rate what is needed or not. WASD is a minor need( for now). Like I said before, there are more players playing Korean based online games than there are playing in the Western market. We are talking about the world, not just one side of the planet.
WASD is easier in PvP.
For isntance; you can run around with WASD and use the mouse to change camera angles to keep an eye on your opponent.
But with point and click you cant.
With point and click I can. Its called advance placement.
Point to a distance about 70 meters in front of your character. While he is moving in that direction, you pan your camera angle, oh look you can change targets while moving.
Like I said before, just different movement style. No real advantage.
If there were like two MMORPGS to be released and both are of the same graphics quality and theme but one has a WASD option and the other doesnt.. I'd pick the one with the WASD option.
First of all (and I'm sure about this), its always better that a game has 15 options then 3 options, with this I mean ; the more options there are, the more people will play it. so it is always better to have a click-and-move game with a WASD option in it.... I would like to have a WASD option becuz that way its not only the level that influences youre 'strength' but also your skill.
and THATS why I like WASD games more then click-and-go.
I'm sure you have your own style of playing cyber7chink and it's obviously with the point and click system and I respect that. I dont like WASD merely because of PVP, pvp is just a part of an MMORPG it's no big deal to me. The reason why I'd choose a game with WASD controls is because it's a whole lot better than just pointing and clicking. With WASD movements I kinda get the feeling of playing an Action oriented mmorpg. I can't explain it. It kinda gives me that GTA-SA/CS/Fable:TLC feeling. lol.
Again someone who thinks WASD makes the game. Morons are coming out by the truckloads. WASD does not make you better in a game. You are the one who has to make yourself better in a game.
Its funny how you say "how many hugely popular point and click MMORPGs do you know?....." and then add an exception, then add another......... You really need to think before you post. Your really losing your point by stringing it like that. In reality, there are more successfull point and click MMORPGs than there are WASD MMORPGs (think global). Also P2P is a very narrow field. Your setting yourself up for a win. Typical sigle minded behaviour. You cannot refuse the fact that WASD will not be a regular feature in most MMORPGs for another 2-3 years, point and click will reamin most popular type of games till then.
Your not getting it.
Free air vs. cable channels.
If we were talking about this when cable was first introduced and for 5 years after it, you would have picked free air cause it was local, its was originated around your area, and it was free. Now, go 10 more years down the line were Cable improves and becomes cheaper, you would change your opinion and say you prefer cable.
Its the same thing you morons.
Its a matter of practicality. More players prefer Point and click cause uts what they are used to. This is true. When games come out with more and More WASD movement then I you will see more of a demand. You may think everyone wnats it, but on a global scale, no one cares.
Aslo, why use WASD, its like having a basic Nintendo Etertainment Sytem controller in your hands(the first Nintendo). Its funny, technology jumps you ahead from typical console games where 4 directional controllers, to mouse, to analog controller, and to motion sensitive controls( Wii and PS3), but you still want to play 4 directional controll set-up( NES controller).
NOw if this about able to play a PC MMORPG with a Analog controller, that is a step forward, not a step back.
And uhhh not something like rakion.. Something like Wow which has a WASD option.. It's not the WASD that makes wow a great game but it certainly is one reason that makes me pay to play it.Quote:
but yeh alright isnt ifninty WASD control? and uh, anyone still play rakion? lmao
This is becoming a POINT N CLICK vs WASD Controls war thread.. LOL. Cyberchink I think we all get your point already. You're calling everybody who prefers wasd movement morons. We're morons simply because we prefer WASD controls over the controls that you prefer which is point n click.
Anyway after everything you need to say has been said.. There will still be people who would go for point and click games and people who would go only for WASD games. Live with it.
