One good thing arises from post counts though.

In this case, the Free MMORPG section, a good example would be when someone joins just to ask for an invite to a CB game. =/
I kind of like it being shown not to say I'm better just to say I've been here for awhile. In my opinion it doesn't really matter either way other than I just like the numbers.
it wont stop the threads with "I got 1k/2k/3k posts since they just watch theire profile, therefore the spamming wont stop so you could just keep the post counts
