Reputation Change!

There will be a slight change in the way rep now works :)

When a user hits 350 rep he will be given the power to give rep out to other users! WOOO
When reading why most of you wanted to keep post counts, the excuse of it guages how valuable of a member he is, and if he can be trusted... blah

Now with the change in reputation... Someone who has a rep of.. 350 is probably a member you can trust ;)

So until someone hits that mark, only staff can give out the rep right now! There will be other perks with gaining higher rep, I just havn't thought of them yet :)

why not keep the power itself to the mods?

Even at the hands of a kind-hearted man, power may taint their soul.

Let's say some random guy (no names) gets to 350 reputation, so he/she receives the power to give rep or take reputation away. But power can change the way the person may act like. I mean, look what happened to our country!!!!!! We all good and everything, then some idiot takes over with his group of idiots and BAM!!!! We're in a big mess. The same thing can happen over here, although not very likely. Based on what the person thinks, he/she probably would take reputation away if he likes or dislikes a certain person. And even if you give him a set amount or repuatation changes per day, week, month, or year, he might only give reputation to the members that he is friends with and take reputation from members that he hates.

But I think it would work out, if you decide to give that person a permanently set of reputation changes. Of course, there is the case that if you do this, he could just do what I typed on top or he could just mainly focus on one person and just strangle him/her of her reputation or just fill his/her reputation up high.

I personally think that ths will not work if someone does get to 350 reputation. I personally think that if the admins and mods want to do it this way, then they should just add a few more stuff into the system, people might not get away with what I typed up there.

Also, if someone does get to 350 posts, isn't it possible to change an admin's or a mod's reputation? If that does happen, it think if would just be reputation system would just be messed up and wack.

I want to build a system were good members decide who other good members are. There us no real point in abusing rep besides letting other people give rep.

Its just a way to guage how good of a member a person is.

I think changing a mod's or admin's reputation gives you a message telling you you're not allowed to do so. Or if it doesn't, it probably should.

Because it'll just be like the opposite of the warning system. Plus, then if a member wanted a high rep he/she might suck up the the mod, etc, etc.

True, but like Sandman said, the goal is 100. Notice how no one has a high rep at the moment. If someone has 12 rep, a lot of members either wonder how they got it, or they praise them for a job well done. If anyone gets to 100, then we'll know that they are considered a 'good person', and most of them would not abuse the system. There might be one or two times were this would be abused, but people aren't dumb enough to ruin a golden opportunity for something as little as revenge.

It might be permanent but anyone with the chance to do this will probably do it in a positive way. Sometimes, you see someone with a fantastic post, and you want to reward them, but there is nothing you can do. With this rep system, it'll give us a chance to reward those among us who deserve it, and show everyone how nice/cool that person is.

I'm sure Sandman has thought about that, as made it impossible to allow members to rep mods. Moderators are there to help keep flame/spam at onrpg to a minimum,; not for us to judge on how cool they are. (although it still happens :3 )

@Sandman: I think 100 would be good, but my question still stands; how often will the mods be giving out rep? If it's once every era, then you should tone down the requirements, but if it's whenever the mod feelt aht someone has done good, you might want to make it harder to achieve, so more people will try for it.

I think that's the main problem with this; not knowing how often mods are going to be giving away reputation.

Actually, I'd rather have a title related to your posts; that way, it could change a lot thoughout the course of your posting career. If titles were based on your rep, then it might not change for a long time, and you might be stuck with something you might not like.

I agree that having some symbol for rep would be good, but Sandman has just started this system, so lets not make him work too hard...*cough*

But i'm thinkin more like when you get X amount of rep you can change the color of your posts so you always post in green, or you can change your title, or you can close your own threads, ect...

Simple perks that don't give one person too much power.
I will be adding a bar that shows progress... Or something like that...

I think Sandman means the color as what I'm typing in right now. That way, I won't have to type in things each and every time I want to post.
