They are both great. I like Oblivion better cause the graphics and battle system is better. Both are awesome especially with all the mods out there. And Morrowind can look almost as good as Oblivion if you use mods. I play Morrowind mostly because Oblivion lags way too much on my pc.
Oblivion is so much better when it comes to combat and such, but Morrowind had a better storyline and quests, as AionAngel said.
Truthfully, Morrowind is better, but it depends on what kind of gamer you are. I know a lot of people that hate the game because of the combat alone. And since no one has said it yet, I'll tell you why.
Morrowind combat:
Spells: You have a chance to cast which spell your using, depending on its class and your efficiency in that class. Spells hit all the time. (I think)
Bows: You shoot arrows at an enemy. (duh) The arrows fly completely straight, without stopping. Depending on your Marksmanship skill, you have a chance to hit. If you fail that chance to hit, you lose the arrow and the enemy takes no damage.
Melee: You swing your weapon at the enemy and have a chance to hit them based on the weapon you're using.
The combat isn't that great for Morrowind, and needless to say that you can't hit shit in the beginning. Oblivion, on the other hand, you hit ALL the time, no matter what. But they balance that out by giving NPCs more defense, health and making weapons not do as much damage.
But I'm not giving Oblivion the upper-hand here, not at all. Oblivion may be better combat and graphics-wise, but it's story is horrible! And too repetitive. I found I can do Morrowind's over and over again, and it didn't get that bad, but Oblivion just gets annoying after a while.
In the end, if you want a game that will last you a long time, get Morrowind. But if you're more worried about graphics and gameplay, go for Oblivion, even though it won't last your quite as long.
In Oblivion really started to get on my nerves after a while but other than that i thought it was better than Morrowind. And Morrowind is very biased towards swordsman.
Oh, so if I swing a sword dead on at some random guy and he doesn't move, I would miss? Trust me, there were better engines out and they could have done so much better with it, but I'm not complaining. The game still rocked. The only other thing I have against Morrowind is the lack of physics, but I can understand that much given the time period.
Ehh. I dont care about storylines. All i care about is gameplay... (In single player games)
