Trust me, though I haven't played them, there's many of them.

I demand that Ragnarok Online be removed from the list.
Other than that, its all ok I guess.
yes, all korean games are grindfest, period
Wrong, massive failure.
Why?
All games are grindy. Some are grindier than others, but eventually every game will get repetitive at some point.
People just stereotype "korean mmos" (many of which aren't even Korean, lmao) as "grindfests" because that's mostly what's been released lately: Grindy asian games, several of which happened to originate in Korea.
Get Ragnarok Online off the list. Otherwise, it's fine.
Just a small note, elazul. That does not make his statement wrong, because since your logic is all games are grindy, and korean games are a subset of this set named all games...
Well, no offense, just being bored.
EDIT: Unless you meant grindfest =/= grindy, then I apologise for my flawed comprehension.
They might be grindfests but it's up to the player to discern whether they're pointless or not. Maplestory is undeniably a grindy game, but a lot of people who have invested serious time into the game do not regret it, as they have made valuable friends and had interesting experiences that validate their work. ;)
@feyte
I was saying that the stereotype of all Korean games being "pointless grindfests" is incorrect. You see, people ***** ALL OF THE TIME about how grindy "Anime MMORPGs" or "Korean MMORPGs" are, when in reality, all games are grindy at some point, even ones that aren't anime themed or korean.
And I was also pointing out that the amount of people who instantly assume all foreign games are Korean bugs me, because several of the games on his list aren't Korean at all.
Just saying. =D
I could've sworn DOMO was Taiwanese and PW was Chinese.
Also DOMO actually has a point to the grind. Not that the grind is much anyway.
not really, EQ2, CoH/V, GW, WoW (the grind kicks in at farming items and just at very late levels), Irth online, Ryzom, LOTRO, DDO, Vanguard, VC are prime examples of non-grindy games, since they offer you a fair amount of content and character development, so much you don't even notice you are leveling at all from all the stuff you are doing, I remember a point in WoW (which is not a greaat game, heck, it doesn't bring anything really unique to the genre) In which I was playing for 4 hours straight and were just crafting and lvling up my production skills, didn't get a single character level 'till I noticed it was 4 am and there was so much things to do I didn't care about the levels at all
and guess what, they are not asian/korean grindfest pieces of shit :D, and no, is not mostly what's been released lately, it's what's always been released from asian market, stupid pointless grindfest games
yes,all korean games are grinfests...so what?
all japanese games are grindfests
all chinese games are grindfests
all western games are grindfests
all MMORPGs are grindfests
some grindfests are more cloaked than others, but who cares?
its funny that the same ppl who label korean mmorpgs as grindfests say that, for example,WoW isnt a grindfest.
WoW is a soft grindfest for levels, then it becomes:
-a massive grindfest for gold
-a massive grindfest for gear
-a massive grindfest for honor
-a massive grindfest for pvp
same for any western game. all mmorpgs are the same.its not how grindy they are,its how fun they are while playing.if u dont notice the grind, does it mean there's none? no,just that they succeeded in cloaking it.
name one korean game in english thats not a pointless grindfest go!
Well, if you don't pay attention to levels (most people don't, really), GunZ isn't very grindy.
Mostly because people play to have fun rather than level.
I wish people would play games that aren't in English before they judged an entire country's work, though. There are some very nice Korean games out there, you just have to actually try to find them.
I dont know if ALL korean mmos are grindy, but so far ALL korean mmos i played ARE grindy, and iv'e played a lot of them.
so i did but i ment mmo.
First of all I'd like to say that anyone that thinks f2p games don't make money are just ridiculous. There have been many successful games using the cash shop method that make a ton of cash. I have read a few reports that even have stated that some make more... yes.. more.. than games you pay monthly for.
Now, on to the real question in this topic. I have played probably at least double the amount of f2p games the OP listed, and yes, they are mostly pointless grinds. There are a couple reasons that I can think of why this is so:
1. Time sinks to make you 'want' to buy cash shop items
-Just think of all the people that dislike the grind but like the game itself.... selling cash shop experience boosters rakes in the cash.
2. Poor Developement/Company
-Obviously the design and translation of the game is crucial. Take 2moons for example. Dekaron has been out for quite a while now, and 2moons doesn't even have all the stuff dekaron does. I mean, why in hell is 2moons so messed up. All they had to do was tweak the current korean version and make it english. Add a few changes here and there and bam.. done. But no... they had to b0rk up dekaron, remove the content, add tons of bugs, implement on crappy servers... and still fail to 'westernize' (less grind!) the game. They even listened to whiny forum posters complaining about the language in it. It was supposed to be age 17+!!!!
Anywho, enough ranting. Bottom line is that most game companies feel that the longer the user plays, the more they spend on cash shop. Too bad that assumption is false. A happy player is a long term player. If everyone leaves due to grind/lack of quests/content then they have no one paying. Although diablo2 has no cash shop, it is a prime example of how a grind free game can be successful and keep the player base for a ton of years even after the game is 'old'. And why do people still play? It is fun. Imagine what they would have made on a cash shop?
