Theres alot of good Rap/Hip-Hip that doesn't make it to the radio.
AZ..
Immortal Technique..
Tech N9ne..
Just to name a few.
You should make this the official Indie thread.
But, just before you do that, I'd make sure the word Indie doesn't get twisted like it has oh so often in the past. People seem to morph into a genre of music with a specific sound, when that's incorrect. Indie just means that the music is produced with out help of mass record labels.
Just about every band I listen to excluding Weezer I have never heard on the radio. MY favorite being Cap'n Jazz, although they are defunct.

This you won't hear on the radio xD well except in japan -_-"
Ellegarden! Jitterbug is a old song :P they sing english now xD
You don't hear much of those two, if any at all down here.
+10 for Bloc Party, -1000 for Billy Talent. Can you believe that band had the audacity to cover Fugazi?
I forgot to do a plug for one of MY favorite bands...
Modern Life Is War.
Check them out, if you think you've got the balls for some harder stuff.
With a few exceptions (ie. radiohead, who are good, but definitely not indie), everything listed or mentioned on this page is really good independent music

In Rainbows is number 1 for sold cds for a few weeks in a row now. It's still going through a major label, just because they did the online release doesn't change that.
id just like to state that there is no such thing has good music on the radio. its all extremly generic BS wich is made to be catchy, and get the attention of people who dont really know anything about music, and making shitons of money off there back. like, take your average person, make them listen to 3 days grace or w/e, and they will think its amazing, then make them listen to lets say, stratovarius or some shit, and they will think its garbage.
radio is and forever will be the apex of comercialized shitty music.
and anyways. check out this band:

Oh, also, The Outline:
Then again, they are Experimental...
I'm friggin' pissed that I can barely find any of their music on the intarwebz.
Aside from on their myspace: http://myspace.com/theoutline
and Imeem.
Anyhow, next would be Maximo Park. Don't hear much of them, either.
@Squallion, Truth.
The alarmists. They're Minneapolis natives.
Sounds like some music off of Legend of Dragoon
Chiptune music in general.

AshtarCommand does a BRILLIANT cover of Mazzy Star's "Into Dust", plus Gravity and On The Way Down are both fantastic song.
Lifeseeker is just totally whack, Mr California and Gone Guru are both great songs. Listen children. Listen.
Also, official Indie thread? Y/N.
