Chinese Medecine vs Western Medecine.

It;s kind of a small debate in Canada lately after the new health system where the gouverment gives the privilige of getting chinese medecine. Although it's not entirely implented, it was a good news for the chinese doctrine community.


Many thinks that Chinese Medecine is a very unreliable way to seek for recovery but those who actually know their stuff knows that it's a method employed over thousands of years ago.


So what is your point of view?

I think it's something worth exploring. When I think of Chinese medicine, I think of it being no more different to a pharmaceutical equivalent, minus the side-effects. Besides, what makes it all the more worth giving a shot, is it's history of being around for thousands of years, it's something not easily to write off as nonsense, in my opinion.

Would you rather hear:

"Take this drug, it'll relieve your migraine, but you may lose your appetite, get drowsy, and experience nausea, and/or diarrhea. Enjoy."

Or:

"Take this [Chinese Medicine] to relieve your migraine. Enjoy."

Your argument is super inductive.
Gouverment has nothing to do with medecine...

Well, that's what I think. Some claims that they don't want chinese medecine because they didn't get "proper" and "real" education on medecine and it's absolutely biased that some herbs put together can heal...but when i think about it. This method survived millenia, absolutely natural and does not need as much money to be applied....except the taste...I like chinese medecine more...

I can understand why some here in the West would feel that way, about their practice, but also, as you just stated, it alone has passed through difficult situations. That should, as one would think, have something to say about Chinese medicine's potential properties, with low "manufacturing" costs, it could be a good alternative for those of low income individuals/families.

how come I never see Chinese medicine on commercials? If the medicine survives for many years then how did they conduct proper research and testing to see the results?
Western Medicines are properly research and have better labs.

I can't give a logical response to why Chinese Medicine isn't shown on commercials. So I'll use a quote from comedian Chris Rock's "Never Scared" stand up routine:

Research takes quite a while and there's quite a big branch of chinese medecine that was proven to be right and more natural than western medecine. There are lots of researchs done already...however..."ehhhh becuz chinese people made it, they would be biased so we don't accept it. We'll do research and we'll see...* 10 years later* we plan to do a research. *10 more years * we're going to start *another 10 years * we're getting funds* freaking decades after * Ah...we're too busy doing our own research for western stuff...

i still choose western medicine. i mean the WHO is based on western countries, asia only gave us SARS and bridflu.

Id rather trust the west. theres a chinese clinic near me but i wouldnt want to go near it.

based on what i know about chinese medicine id rather go see a conventional doctor.

chinese medicine like herbs and tea?

i perfer chinese medicine, not because im chinese, but because it usually works,for me at least

There are numerous sources that Chinese medicines uses a lot of animal product too. Like for example: rhinoceros horn, shark fin, bear bile.
A lot of the animals that are used in Chinese medicines are endangered.

That may bear some truth, Espada, though throughout this thread I'm assuming we're all talking about Herbology's propeties, as that tends to be a more common practice in the West. At least as far as I know, there are no Traditional Chinese Shacks selling Bear Bile around here.

i prefer western for common sickness like cold, fever etc.

but chinese medicine is good for rheumatism etc etc

"Take this drug, have two a day, it will relieve your migraine, side effects: Drowsy."



Now the Chinese, "Take this mashed up leaf, rub it on stomache and recite poem, then stroke lucky cricket and hop on one foot. Side effects inculde Death."

Tell me thats not hilarious.

It's a fact that western medicine cures people.

As for Chinese medicine, well, I doubt it has such a beneficial effect, I think of it as giving more of a placebo effect.

That being said there are still many things we are yet to learn about the body.

I'm sure there are herbs which can sure illnesses, however until I get absolute proof that it works I'm sticking with the medicine which goes through a rather lengthy trial to see if it works or not before it's given to humans.

And besides alternatives medicines aren't completely covered under the NHS.

Western medicine is best when seriously ill, chinese medicine is probably best when you have a minor medical condition, which would encompass both of those factors. Chinese medicine is just more therapeutic afaik.

Keep up with time.

Most people falsely believe that herbs and "natural" supplements don't have side effects.

Many of those types of products contain several ingredients that when used in excess or by someone with a say an allergy to them, are susceptable to a number of terrible side effects. Also, keep in mind that some of them are not tested throughly enough to determine such side effects.

Just something to consider when comparing herbs to western medicines, neither of them are truly safe, but at least with western medicines they have been through many more tests to determine these things.

I've read about some chinese remedies causing extreme illnesses and such because of some of the ingredients, even strokes and other types of brain damage are not uncommon.

We had SARs but we ended it now there is no more SARs. Bird flu is still a problem but not all the diseases come from asia>_>

Even if they did then we are no endangering animal speicies any more!! The shark fin is actually great for your health but now ppl are killing less sharks! Bear bile :eye: not sure about it.....

Chinese medicine tastes bad but the effects are great. Westeren medicine doesnt taste bad but has really bad side effects

I rather choose both. A little of Chinese and westeren medicine :3

oh yeah man i remember reading about that in new scientist

they fill yo lungs with some kind of oxygenated fluid so that when you go underwater your lungs dont fill up with water and kill you since the fluid they injected lets more oxygen into it or something. kinda like how fish breathe by filtering oxygen out of the water. pretty interesting stuff.


also, i think people are getting confused here with terminology.

i thought we were talking about modern western medicine as practised today vs traditional, old, whatever you want to call it chinese medicine (and not modern chinese medical practices)
