I just wanted to know what you as an individual think would be good for a post-apocalyptic society basically restarting to have.
Most of mine, for instance, are based on the idea that people should learn to respect nature, individualism and beauty more the next time around, rather than making machines of destruction and creating hierarchies. I definitely didn't get them because they're part of any sort of literary (or whatever) canon.
How you define what is/will be important is entirely up to you, in other words

Concerning those kind of books it makes hardly a difference, if you pick Van Clausewitz's "Vom Kriege" Machiavelli's "I'll Principe", Tsunetomos "Hagakure", Knigges "Über den Umgang mit Menschen", the Holy Bible, the Quran, the book of seven rings, Mills "On Liberty", Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience", Aristotele's ethics, the list is endless.
They are all the same and the difference that divides them is not the message or the facts they analyze, but the intention that led to them (usually bold sympathies for a certain caste).
I would throw Marx into one bucket with Mao, Che, Stalin and Lenin. I would personally say, that even though formulating an interesting thesis, any approach to make it real, is accompanied by propagating it'S 2-sided view of the situation, that brings in a "the need justifies the means" mentality, that I would rather have that new world be free of.
I just wanted to say, literature concerning itself with social or political issues are absolutely representing a political choice. I would honestly leave them of my list, because censoring the aftermath in that way might as well be done impartially.
That however can be said for any item; the only book I can think off therefore would be a cookbook (edit: I have unintentionally come up with the same idea as one of the outstanding physicists of the last 300 years and I can't figure out who it was [suspecting Boltzmann though, or maybe Schrödinger]).
Id either take a library or nothing, 10 books aren't worth it, because those will loose their fire soon anyways. I would take with me a massive amount of paper/linen and also quite some writing/drawing/plotting tools.
About the music: Use 2 sticks, to make it in the nature.

It would lead me to believe that this 'new' world will be an Onrpg communist world. It will have Gabe as supreme king. The food will ONLY center around fried chicken, and Kool-Aid.
