How I see it anyway, based on no personal preference because I don't like any of them all that much.
WoW for sure, more people pay for it then any other MMO so...
I would say... Lineage2.
Once a game goes F2P, lots of kids will join in an ruin it. And Lineage2 has good graphics + open pvp to solve kid-problems...
i say WoW because i did the free trial and found it most entertaining! i think flying mounts are also a grand idea in that they give a scope of just how gigantic the area of the game really is. i think, they all win, blizzard has the money to make WoW free and NC can definitely make at least one of its games truly free... i think an AVP game would win;) hands down! either that or an elderscrolls game, but i digress. btw i love your "you shall not pass!" sig their;)i have a stop sighn on my block that says "stop voldemort" on it:D
the one i'd definitely play is EQ2 ... the combat system is interesting and there are lots and lots of classes :)
AoC by a vast margin, if WoW and L2 attracts kids because they have "pvp", AoC has boobs, blood/gore and PvP, that's a win right there

WoW or AoC. Maybe L2 but L2 already has too many illegal alternatives with all the kiddies on them. Are they gonna leave their 30x server for the official server? WoW would win by far. They have the biggest subscribers now, and they'd stay more than likely if it went F2P, plus gain a lot more (players).
L2 = No way, not EVERYONE plays on a private server because they can pay or don't want too. Some play just because they don't like the grind. And the grind in L2 IS hard. Sure it would be popular, as if it was a new game going into open beta, but it would soon be deserted, back the way it was before, and I can guarantee you they won't leave their high rate server for official. Example: RF Online
AoC = I'm sure a lot of people would play it if it went F2P, but not everyone has a super computer to play it on.

No one would trade their alternative server rates for retail's rates, no one sane that is(not even with the Gracia exp boost methods tbh)

AoC, even tho I always thought that it would have a terrible community due to his PvP nature(?) seems to be a land of "peace" and all kids would want to try it, even if not only to break the +18 "rule" and watch some C cups and higher.

I'd definately give EQ2 a try, but in the end I think WoW would gain the most customers.

well to clear this question only people should vote who played all of the games into high or maybe max lvl areas.
i had many lvl 80s in L2 1 retail 79 2 wow lvl 70 but i didnt play EQ2 (only trial)
i didnt play AoC and i only played ultima for a few days on private server..
so i cant realy say which of em would win.
i think every game has a few areas where it realy shines.. in WoW it is PVE n instances.
in L2 its pvp n castle sieges, olympiad.. basicly all about pvp. but compared to wow its grindy ^^ but WoWs pvp is for pussys compared to all the other games.
and yeah wow is more noob friendly..its made for idiots
if they went free they would fail specialy WoW the servers would be over loaded and there would be lots lag and delay of getting on servers.ultima online actualy the best one but its 12 year old game and to many want graphics. give wow 12 years itll be so used up wont even get 12 years befor they move to another version of it like everquest did.

The pvp in world of warcraft is lame
in lineage 2 the pvp is epic
I played Lineage 2 x35 private server( with 3 servers all with 1500 players)
I was really addicted to that server it still took a lot of time to get 50+ but with all those dungeons it was really amusing because your Dino can fight to Yes and it has a level 2 :)
Castle Siege is just Epic Wyverns(Big flying dragons Yes they are mounts) are flying all over the place
The new Areas that just came out are epic.
I would say Lineage 2 for sure if you get lvl 60+ World of warcrap cant compete to that
