Ok, first, tablets, are NOT cheap at all.
They are all expensive as ****.
Not unfordable, but still hella expensive.
Now, as for brand, there is only one brand to get.
Wacom
There are not a lot of things that I'll only ever look at one brand when I'm looking to buy, but tablets are one of them.
Anyway, I know Newegg and Canada arn't friends, but they are good to simply pick stuff out with.
Here's Wacom's current line-up

looking at that list makes me wish I had $1000 to spend on a tablet...
fabian is correct.....go only with Wacom I have tried other cheaper company tablets and they all sucked.....
you can pick up a Wacom bamboo tablet for a little less than $100 USD in most large electronic stores....
Pfff, brand doesn't matter that much if you don't have the skills to use it's potential. And no they are not expensive as hell, I bought mine for ~90$ and I'm fully satisfied. Sure I'd buy a better one if I shat money but I'm happy with this one too.

I use this one, Medion brand. I picked this one over a WACOM from same price range because it's big (16:9) and very slim which makes it comfortable to use.
