    Default *Stone Age 2 Review*

    Stone Age 2 Review

A prehistoric turn-based MMORPG sequel to the famous Stone Age 1 (released in China, Japan around 10 years ago), Stone age 2 is a MMORPG many people seem to had missed due to the hype at Square Enix releasing their free turn-based MMORPG Concerto gate.

Stone Age 2 is very much like the Pokemon games on the Game boy, like it's predecessor (though before anyone shouts copy, the Stone Age games actually existed before pokemon was released) in fact the whole idea sounds very much like pokemon, capturing different Pals, rasing their levels, doing battles with npc's to get rewards and like pokemon the amount of Pals available is astonishing (over 200).

But this is where the similarities to pokemon end, where the real worth of the Stone age series shows through and what makes it, IMO one of the best turn-based MMORPGs out there. First of all, each and every single Pal in the game is unique (well 99% of them), because both stat gains and base stats are random (though there are mechanics in the game so that if you treat your Pal well, the chances are the stat gains will be higher) and because of the tournament system in the game, many players strive to find Pals with the highest stat. Secondly is the scale of the Stone Age 2 world, from the map, it seems there are over 6 islands (with 3 already released in the English version) with each island, vast, each witrh dungeons and secrets to explore. The last reason is the the party system, allowing each player to have up to five pets in battle on their own (minus one for each player in the party) and up to 5 players in a party.

There will be some complaints about the the game, such as the difficulty of bosses of the dungeons can be genuinely hard, as well as npc duelists. Yes there are botters in the game already but the number is remarkably few and GMs are trying their best to ban them and discover them. Yes, there are both bgs, glitches and typos within the game, with some cringe-worthy mispellings but in the end, I don't think it matters, you are still left with a game which you can play for hours on end, which you can always find something new to do, somewhere different to explore. A game which I truly feel is worth playing.

    Graphics:7

Neither good, nor bad the game is 2.5D anime-ish style graphics, though the landscapes are truly done beautifully with spots in the game just to show off the art.

    Sound:5

Personally I think the music is both repetitive and annoying, at least there is a mute option

    Gameplay:9

Almost perfection for a game of it's genre, bugs and glitches stopped me giving it a perfect 10

    Cash Shop Reliant:8

While there is a Cash shop which you can use to get a quick buck, many of the items in the Cash shop can be bought from npc's etc..or can otherwise be bought from players.

    Community:8

Stone age 2 has a fledgling community-which means kind, naive and generally nice.

    Grindfest:8

Not at all, since the xp settings are upped to 2x at all times and 4x on weekends, you will not notice the grind go by

If it was neither good nor bad for graphics, wouldn't it be a 5 rather than a 7...?

6/7 is considered Average not 5. I'm not gonna try the game though as i'm enjoying TR while i wait for runes of magic.

There was no mention of average.

Pokemon was pretty fun couple years ago... so in SA2 we get "pets" and we battle each other?

Perhaps I should have said it more clearly, what I mean by this is that the graphics don't stand out among other games, however they do not completely suck either.

Then you're probably being a bit overgenerous with your numbers.

Five is in the middle therefore it's neither good nor bad.
    Seven means pretty good.

That's sort of the whole point of a scale...

Perhaps you are right but I don't feel that the game should deserve a 5 in the graphics department, after all, while the game is not 3D, it does 2.5D extremely well and I have seen games which have far, far worse graphics rated higher than 5.

    Default stone age2

looks good the review is making me want to play, i like the catch and other pokemon like ideas.

    I was just wondering:
    1. does making a party with other players help a lot(Wouldn't be alot of fun doing dungeons alone...)
    2. how bad are the bugs?

Exactly :P. The op would need at least 1000-1500 words, and he would need to be selected by ONRPG's senior editor to have the right to publish for the site. You could certainly apply for the position if you're willing to write things about double that size, though.

1.Basically the more players you have the more versatile your team is and also you can have a total of ten characters (between you) out instead of the total of 6 you normally have out (on your own)

2.some log in problems (there are fixes) and patcher problems for some people
