Default Am i growing out of MMORPG's or are they just all crap now?

I've been playing MMO's since late 2002, beginning with the original RuneScape which to be honest if a certain (decent) server came about i'd definately play it.

Up untill now i've played/tried a few games:

Martial Heroes, KAL Online, Legend of Ares, Hero Online, Ferentus, Fly for Fun, Maple Story, Sho Online, Etc... The list goes on'

The only game's i've played for a decent amount of time was the original RuneScape which was like 2002 - the last mass ban on RSC (2006?), KAL Online - I used to absolutely love that game and that was i think late 04 till around early 06 and Legend of Ares which i played the closed beta for about 2 weeks i think and on the opening day(s) of Open Beta i played 40 hours straight X_X was one of the first people to level 60 on whatever server i played and that's when i just stopped playing, maybe i just overplayed or something..

Every game i try now seems to be crap, the graphics are usually some cartoony rubbish, the chat is spammed by 12 year olds talking sh' about each other and i get bored within the first hour and just delete the game from my computer.

I did the 12 day trial for WoW, played for about 2 hours - boring, didn't grip me at all.

I'm waiting for WAR next month and am quite excited, maybe it'll actually grab me by the balls and kick off my old gaming addiction i used to have...

So is it just me, or are games just getting a bit crap now?

Oh and Shaiya was cool for a while too haha

If you didn't like WoW, chances are you will not like WAR ( or so they say ) 'cus basically it's a more PvP oriented WoW. Think DaoC meets WoW or so. .__. ( I myself was entertained for a long time when WoW was still Pre-TBC and Pre-BWL. So I'm hoping WAR will be more hardcore then WoW was. <3)

Lies! It's just about finding the right game.

They're all just crap right now.

I'm about to give up on mmos until something NEW comes out. I'll probably just be playing s4 or combat arms on and off until then. (Don't worry guys, I'm not leaving OnRPG! <3)

I'm going to try Latale today, see how that goes =\

that's true, the games are just crap right now. but its getting better, alot of promising releases are coming the next weeks/months.maybe we'll see the light sooner or later
i used to play KAL too, i loved it for its simplicity and amazing weapon/armor design.

WAR is definitely worth buying, so will be Aion (hopefully^^)

IMO, you need a group of friends to actually enjoy any MMORPG on the market. Grinding by yourself can get real boring real fast. That is why i dont usually do free trials unless my friends are doing it with me.

I thought I was growing out of MMORPGS too, until I found WoW. Before WoW, I've played well over 50 MMOS that were F2P, most of them were crap. Some of them were pretty good ^^. Until I found guild wars and WoW, that saved my MMO life. Just keep on trying games until you find one you like. Runes of magic is coming out, everyones going to hype it and such since it's "supposed" to be good. Perfect world international is also coming out.

Maybe you should learn to settle with one good game & commit some time in it.

By saying that WoW is boring while praising Shaiya/Runescape... well. Though admittingly, WoW was better before they made it more... "causal"-friendly.

All in all, F2P games are all garbages. Just gotta realize that. >_>

glorifying World of Warcraft are you now? /incinerate!

in any case, going from the list of mmo's you've played you've been at the worst of the bandwagon barrage of grinders.

at the moment, the only mentionable games in the f2p genre are runes of magic, Requiem, Rappelz and in the P2P genre the like of Lord of the Rings Online and othersr

Not saying WoW is great now , but it was back in the old days.

But it still beats most F2P games. Hands down.

i will never deny that WoW beats f2p mmo's. I'm still rational, after all the budget Blizzard can spend on WoW is simply beyond the numeric possibilities of a mainstream calculator machine

WAR is your only hope tbh. If you don't like it then give up on MMO's for now, though I think it will provide you a few months entertainment atleast.

First of all, and I want to make this clear: "Growing up," or in this case, maturing, does not mean giving up the things you enjoy. It simply means your tastes are becoming more refined, and because of that you're craving games that are worthy of your time and refining tastes.

Now, in terms of games becoming crap: Yes and no.

You'll always have really crappy games, but there are usually very good ones to weigh them out. Not usually in volume, but in the sure amount of awesome that radiates from the good ones, if you see where I'm going.

I would really like to go in-depth, but I'm afraid I have to cut this short for right now. ♥

Seems like theres a tidal wave of interesting games slowly moving its way to our coast, for a year or two, maybe three some interesting games will be popping up periodically.

    Just a feeling though.

What has happened to me is that I've found just good action in a mmorpg dosen't do it for me. I need good story, and good rp. That's why I just picked a really god NWN server to spend my time on, I don't bother with all these new foreign games anymore. They are all missing good story lines and good in character play

You're only going to get bored of games if you suddenly don't get interested by them anymore. The reason kids stop playing with there toys is because they're told after a while "they're too old" if noone did that we'd have a bunch of adults playing with action figures, and you know what? We'd probably all be a lot happier. You're never too old to do something you like, and I don't believe in "out growing anything" except maybe your clothes.
