    Default I wonder...

...why so many companies bother to produce really ****ed-up games that basically suck in every point? They know that those games fail by the time they get released and they don't even have a half decent population.
Lets take games like Phoenix Dynasty Online or so...now please tell me why on earth anyone would play that game rather than an other one. There is no reason. Sure, some play those games for like a few hours...just to waste some time. But why would I spend my money for that game's item mall?
Let's assume every player thinks like that...or at least the majority(obvious)...how do those companies financed themself by those games?
Are a few hundret bucks really worth all the effort, time and money you spent on the games?
    PDO is only an example.

I was wondering also why companies try to make a game which is pretty much exactly like every other.. Maybe you will make some money but eventually you will have to make item mall items godly so the people who buy will be able to own people who dont. And then the people who dont have quit, and then the people who bought item mall items have no one to own either so they quit.

I think games should start being more creative.. I have like 2-3 ideas that would be perfect games.. but dont have enough programming skills yet to make them myself.. Im going to college for game programming though... Best game I made so far is blackjack lol

They do it for the lulz.

Seriously though,Lots of F2P MMOs are generic and are not even worth touching, but financially i guess there is only so much you can put into a game.

Some people like generic grinders and would spend money on Cash shops if it makes them enjoy the game more.

    My thoughts anyway

I played PDO for ~3 months because I had a crappy computer and it was fun when I played because at the time, the community was active and everyone knew everyone.

I actually wondered that myself. I specifically wondered that when I played Knight Online for the first time. I played it, got to level 10, and found a replacement to that game the same day. I guess it's worth it, if they manage to get a couple of devout players. The cost of making the game will quickly be made back if they get the devout players.

There are always people who use the cash shop. And producing a clone of a generic korean MMO is not a task you need alot of people for. A simplified version of the process would look like this: You change most of the graphics, make a new map, rename the skills, monsters and items and presto, there you go, a new game. With any luck, they'll run a short and annoying promo in their target area, and people will start playing it. You run some promo campaign ingame, where you give special items to people who get to specific levels and people will pay money to be the first to get to those levels and recieve their "free" gifts. No one actually wants to make a bad game, they just have a small budget, which limits the things they can do with their games. It's just like art, you need alot of creativity and skill to make something that others will like. And any profits they make from their cash shop generic MMO game will go towards developing the next game. Logically, they should up their budget and make something better, but if the crappy game made this kind of money, they will not bother to increase the budget, since "it worked the last time, let's just make another one of those".

on topic : Yes in all honestly, I do think games like PDO will have a decent sized community, though it could very well die fast but all games have at least a small amount of community left in them, as far as a future no one can say..it depends on their decisions as a company how long they host it or what features they may put in that drive players away or create new floods of people as with all games.
Look, some people like top down, some people like 2d, some people like side scrolling, some people like PvP, some people like RvR, some people like working more to get their character up so they feel more of a reward, some like to get up to cap within hours/days just so they can create many characters, some like to roleplay, some don't; I could go on but I'm sure you get my point.
Some people happen to like games like PDO, I don't know much about the game so I can't go into detail and personally I don't care for it but thats just my opinion.
Of course, but there are so many games of every kind so why would a player pick a new game that is basically the same as an other one, but with a smaller community? That's my point.

There is always something different between each and every game, even if its the slightest detail. That small detail might make the game for the player who chooses it over the other.
