Dude, the first day of school is awesome. You don't have to do ANYTHING, just learn the rules of the classroom. They are all pretty much the same anyway, so it never takes too long.
I always went to breakfast with my friends on the first day of school (instead of going to school lol). We just got caught up from summer time and then we'd hang out in a park all day. We went to school the next day (which is even more bullshit than the first day) and figured out what we needed to know.
In my school, they never even handed the books out until the monday after the first week was up. Lol.
