    Default Sleep Paralysis

    Wow...

    This is really freaky.

I found about this Sleep Disorder that is messed up, Now im scared to go to bed, i dont want this to happen to me >.<

Sleep paralysis is a common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia that occurs upon awakening from sleep or less often while falling asleep. Stimuli such as touch or sound may terminate the episode, which usually has a duration of seconds to minutes. This condition may occur in normal subjects or be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occur during REM sleep. When considered to be a disease, isolated sleep paralysis is classified as MeSH D020188.

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger . Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters. A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox of the University of the West of England suggested that alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.

The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes "after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false" . When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP). "ISP appears to be far more common and recurrent among African Americans than among White Americans or Nigerian Blacks" , and is often referred to within African American communities as "the witch riding your back"

Paralyzed + Omega scary hallucination = Sleep Paralysis

It's happened to me before. Just couldn't move and I thought I was dying or something... tried yelling but nothing came out, then I woke up and went back to bed .

This happens to me every once in a while. I wake myself up by moving my neck, which I'm always able to move when this happens. One time I thought I woke up from sleep paralysis, and then ended up realizing I was still dreaming then woke up from that while still in sleep paralysis. It sucked. Thankfully I don't hear screaming and shit like some people do.

    From research and stuff.

It normally lasts like 30 seconds.

But in some bad cases (rarely tho... Like a 1% chance) it can last hours >.<

Well good luck that I never dream.
The only thing I must look out for is to sleep while I stand.
Well most of the times that happens when I get really drunk.

I hate that I always fall asleep when I'm drunk.

what's all the fuzz with the OP?, sleep paralysis it's NOT common, it's not like you are gonna go to sleep right now and you will suffer from it, in fact sometimes it's even rare

I used to hallucinate alot as a child.examples: the floor and walls were covered in spiders and scorpions,I saw a freaky looking clown with an "I'm going to kill you." grin stick it's head up beside my bed,and I've seen cat paws hop down off the top bunk.

As for the paralysis,I think something close to that happened to me when I was still in high school.I had just woke up from a nap, however,my vision wasn't clear and my eyes were still heavy.I tried to move, but I couldn't.My whole body felt extremely heavy and it felt like something was on top of me,somehow not letting me move at all.I saw my younger brother enter my room, asking if I wanted some of the candy he bought, and I replied by saying "yes.leave it beside me.".I surprised he could hear me.I'm pretty quiet when talking, but to me,it sounded like I was whispering or mumbling.Anyway,he left the candy on the floor, left the room, and after about 10-15 seconds,I somehow fell right back asleep. When I woke up next time,I was fine and enjoyed that sweet and delicious candy!

I have this. One time it happened to me two times in one night freaky shit.

Everything in the article i have lol. I'm not sure about the alien abductions tough lmao. During sleep paralysis I can open my eyes but i can't move then i start to panic and breath really fast then stop again and again. In some cultures it is called the devil on your chest or the boulder on your chest or something like that.

Ive had that several times when i was a kid. I would wake up unable to move my whole body, the wind would be blowing up the curtains and i could hear the wind blow so very loud. I would try to scream but only a soft moan comes out. When I closed my eyes, even though theres no dream, there would be a sudden rush of fear and I would open my eyes wide again. After a few times, I would give up and close my eyes and go back to sleep ignoring the fear.
