Just got done with a 3 hour play session of War.

Ha.

Let me say first off, I don't see the game as "bad". It is far superior than the crappy grind fests that come out of Asia, so woot to that. However, when you stack it up to another top MMO, say WORLD OF WARCRAFT, it just falls apart. The combat is rather slow and clunky, the cast bar seems off many times, and the UI seems very uhhh cluttered I guess you would say? The quests are alright, same style just like WoW so I have no beef with them. The graphics... I don't know. They just seem generic, I can't really explain it. The servers aren't very stable right now either, but that's expected because its the first day of OB.

Now before you guys attack back with it has BETTER PVP AND RVR is awesome yada yada, the one thing that kills all of that is that War just doesn't nail down the fundamentals like WoW does. Whereas WoW's combat is fully responsive and dare I say perfect, War feels slow and as I said before clunky. It just kills it for me. I'll be spamming away at lob choppa and it just doesn't feel like it's hitting correctly, and in some ways makes me feel detatched from the combat.

Maybe a few patches down when Mythic can piece together the Combat, I'll give it another shot. But for now, no. I'm cancelling my peorder and giving them about 6 months to get it right.

Edit: I know it's OB, I was in WoW's beta as well and that game showed much more potential than War does now. But as I said before, it isn't totally broken, it just needs a complete overhaul.

In conclusion, lol to the people that said War would dominate WoW. War does have the potential... but right now no.

Exactly what I was thinking!! WAR is totally overhyped, It doesn't provide anything for us PVE players/carebears . I'll give it the fact that the RVR and stuff is pretty fun for awhile but it'll get repetitve unless your into completely balanced pvp. Every game that has been on ONRPG so far has been overhyped. I guess I'll just play spore till.....

Its not about gear, its about combat, and the combat in WAR is slower then in WoW, wow got it pritty much right, fast paced and you feel like your killing something that dosnt take ages, compare lv 1-10 content, not end game , we all know wow end game sucks.

Like said before WoW has been out for 4 years and has had patches and expansions but its obvious if someone doesnt like a game evenafter it does get better they wont come play cause they simply dislike it.

Im happy you at least gave it a chance but be a bit more open minded. To be expected from most people making reviews after 3 hours of an open beta test though instead of reviewing a game for what it is they compare it with their own.

I have heard that comment that from other things (the combat) I think it depends on what class you play atm because I played a Warrior Priest and didn't notice any clunky combat. But I do wonder, did you dislike LOTRO's combat? (Most people who didn't like their combat probably wouldn't like WAR's because it is kinda inbetween LOTRO and WOW.)

He did not bash anything. He simply stated his opinions on what he observed. The fact that he played WoW that long does not automatically make his opnion biased.

Most of the things he judged were things that could be seen wayy before u get 398590345903 hours on the game, like combat speed for example. Also clunky fighting, u can notice that right off the back. It isnt like he said the end-game content sucked after only playing for 3 hours lol.

I prolly have more hours then that on WoW and it never has or will influence my opinion on other games.

I did play WoW for a month, really wasn't my cup of tea, the quests are BORING and the combat too! Gotta admit WAR's combat is kinda slow, but quests are NO WAY similar to WoW. Much more depth, imo.

Meh, I wouldn't say he's a fanboy just off of that number, but he might very well be. I myself have over 5000+ hours logged in WoW and that is without counting the 6+ months I was in WoW CBT. For the record though I am a Blizzard Fanboy. I still think WoW is a good game, but not from a PvP perspective. My love of WAR is because I loved playing DAoC RvR so much and find the hybrid combat of WoW+DAoC in WAR as a refreshing change.

Hypocritical considering how biased you are against WoW. The quests are virtually the same as WoW if not lacking. Kill this, talk to that, go touch that. It's all the same stuff. RvR is better than WoW's PVP for sure but so far the PVE stuff is on par or lacking in comparison. The graphics aren't that much better than WoW. At highest current settings the grass at distances look like splotches.

I do have to agree that the quests are virtually the same, but that goes for most MMORPG's honestly. Kill X, Fed-Ex this, or Find X cover most quests available in those games. WoW and WAR both have good story driven quest systems. The differences in WoW graphics and WAR graphics are more subtle than most people expect. WAR uses a darker color palette for the ambience compared to WoW, so that is what you first see. The real differences start to become apparent when you gain levels and gear. The detail in specific areas (Gunbad for example), on armors (Tier 4 best example), and constant movement of the world (windy banners, shifting armor, dangling trophies, etc) all start to make the world become more alive.

I'm not trying to make this the WoW VS WAR graphic debate, but as time goes on and you get to turn more features on and see more onscreen items you'll notice a vast difference. However, I like both styles for different reasons. Heck, WoW can look much better if you use the macro hacks to increase details.

The Public Quest system is a very nice addition to WAR that is lacking from other titles. I am a big fan of them, but they do not promote community as Mythic was hoping they would. They're a big competition. ^^

But I have to say, I am disappointed, in many aspects. Then again, it's OB. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Still a great game, just not the epic game I expected.

Mythic is an experienced MMO company though, so I still have high hopes.

Well, it's inevitable WAR gets a shitload of criticism. Mythic has good reputation for their previous games (DAoC and Ultima) and there's heavy competition for blizzard as well. I'll definitely be P2Ping WAR, but I gotta wait until November when my damned GSCE is over.

you guys are jumping to conclusions way to fast its the first day of open beta its not even the full game the content is limited I think we should just sit back and wait until the full version is released to really decide weather or not this game will go far as for me the pvp is really balanced and skill based there are tons of things to do and many ways to level up and have fun I think this game is going to have a bright future
