    Default ummm...lil question

umm, sorry. my laptop wont work properly and it wont let me access the tech forum so i cant post in there. i keep getting an error, ok, so i decided ill post my quesiton here (mod move if u like n no one flame me) what are quad cores?

i think quad cores are computers with like 4 processors, so a game that requres 3.4ghz, and u have a 2.4ghz quad core processor, with means 2.4X4 = 9.6ghz, i will easly be able to play the game right? can someone post an easy to understand quad core thing?

once again, sorry for the wrong forum, i just cant access the tech forum. thanks if ur not an ass!

It does not really work like that, quad core just means the processor can do 4 things at once in a sense, and really is not needed by the average user.

However for applications that support quad core they can spread their processing across all 4 cores, but you will find most games will not support it.

I am not an expert on the matter but in all senses your processor is classed as 2.4ghz but it can run for example 4 games that require 2.4ghz at the same time.

Quad core is designed to allow a computer to multi-task and do alot of things at once, and make such things as rendering go super fast e.t.c e.t.c.

It will however be alot faster then a general 2.4ghz processor but it will 'not' act like a 9.6ghz processor, that is not what quad core is about.

It is possible you will be able to run that game, however not certain, however I do highly doubt 3.4ghz is the minimum requirement for the game in question, it is probably a lot lower then that.

Basically most applications processes will stick to '1 core' unless they have been programmed to spread across multiple cores, and because of this the most processing power those applications can get is 2.4ghz, if this game was to take up 100% of this 1 cores cpu power it would only effectivley be taking up now 25% of your new quad core, allowing you to do alot more at the same time. This is the beauty of quad core. But as I said some applications are devolped to make use of multiple cores and can spread their processing across all the cores thefore making use of all 9ghz of it
