    Default Wow...this is getting annoying.

    School Cancelled Monday, September 15

Front page of my school website, all because of this stupid teacher's strike. This could last for today, or until the end of the month.

The reason I'm so pissed about this is because I have an AP class and an honors level class, both of which I'm going to miss a lot of work in if this lasts more than a week. Besides, strike or no strike, the AP test is still set at its current date.

Why won't someone think of the children?!

    What do you all think?

I'm sure if the teachers are on strike and school is canceled, the school board would give the students some leeway on their classes and tests. It's not the student's fault, after all.

They will for the normal classes, but the honors and AP teachers aren't. Mainly because the AP test is still on the same date, so when we get back, we have to catch up. And the honors classes are hard enough without work being crammed down your throat

And another thing that sucks horribly about this is that if this lasts too long, we get this whole period of time off, but then they make us go to school on all of the holiday's to make up for time missed...

EDIT: My AP Bio teacher already told us flat out that if this lasts more than a week, she's going to cut a section straight from our notes and move on to the next stuff. To put things in perspective, the AP tests are national, and your score is directly dependent on what the other students all across the nation got. The less teaching we get, the worse of a grade we get.

So get a step ahead and study the chapter from the book that they may not teach. People in online college courses do that all the time, and I mean learn from the book. If you can't do that I don't think you should be in an AP honors class. The teacher is there to help make learning the material easier, but you should be able to study and learn it on your own.

Of course if you run into a problem ask your teacher and they should be able to answer any question... otherwise they should not be teachers!

That's not a problem with my AP Biology class, in fact, I've started to read it. But I have no formal notes to write down, nothing to refer back to after I'm done reading. And my note taking skills, I'll admit, aren't the best so they usually end up being disfigured abominations.

And it's not that easy when your class isn't based off of the book. Like my Human Anatomy class, we go solely off of powerpoints that the teacher has created. We rarely use the book at all, normally only for visual representations and information hunting on worksheets.

shouldn't the teacher have a website for her powerpoints? i mean...what good are powerpoints if you are unable to refer back to them for your own use later in the future? Not that hard to post them online....

anyways, about the AP test date not changing...you sure thats correct? what if a school that offers AP classes suddenly caught fire and it closed for a month or more? What would the students do then? I don't think AP tests are limited to be taken on that specific day~ if some dire situation arises, I'm sure they will change the date to some another time.

I doubt you'll be held responsible for this dude...

Also; my girlfriends school was closed due to extreme weather today.

Like the OP already said, AP is on a national scale, it waits for no one, the test time and date itself is the same for each AP class in the U.S. to ensure that there's no cheating, not even on a national level.

Edit: Just to be more specific as to why the test dates and time are set in stone. Reason being is that in previous exams kids in one area that took the exam before other areas would post/send the test answers to those that haven't taken the test yet, giving them an advantage when the scores come back.

She's not allowed to access her site during the strike, the school board won't let her. They've shut down all the teacher's accounts basically.

The only ones I can see are the ones we've already gone over...

    @Vi3tElite: Thanks for explaining.

He's really not as lucky as you all think. If he doesn't score high enough on that AP test then there would have been no purpose in taking it, that would be several months of hard work down the drain.

The honor classes i wouldnt worry about much. Its the AP, i didnt take AP Bio yet but i already took AP World history and scored a 4 on the test. Altho our teacher was a dick and was gone for so damn long, we never learned anything.

    What i did was:
    1. Go ahead in the book and take notes like this...
    -----(Main subject)
    --------(Sub category)
    -----------Info
    -----------Info
--------(Sub category) yada and so on
Not so much writing, only a sentence for each peace of info.

    2. Find some1 who has either taken the class or is a buff in that area and MAKE them help you.

    3. Use the net but always refer to a reliable source to make sure its accurate.

    4. Try to get some1 to come up with questions to quiz you

    Hope this helped :/

Where the **** do you study? Gossip Girl High?
If teachers were getting paid 80k a year then they'd be livin la vida loca.

And I feel your pain, I'm in 4 AP's and 1 Honors, if we missed class due to teachers being asses then I'd be seriously pissed.

My friend in Isreal got one month off because of their teacher strike. You shouldn't worry too much, whats done is done there nothing you can do about it.
