Default Is this graphics card decent?

Ok so I have this older outdated graphics card that doesn't even have shader 2.0.

It's a RADEON 9200 PRO Family graphics card. Yes, laugh all you want.

So I was thinking about buying this one.

XFX - NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Graphics Card (Theres a link to it)

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....abbed-overview

Think this card would be ok for now? I don't really have a lot of money so this would probably be the most expensive I could go. I just want a card that would be good for a while for gaming.

done a bit of searching and found the mobo

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...product=455039

was a bit tricky to find since the 061 was the only thing ive could search for, google didnt yield any result at what dxdiag says at system model

in short; at the link ive found, no you cant run it unless you change your mobo

and with hp, dell etc pcs new mobo means new everything

Blah. Well that sucks. I guess I'll have to try looking for a different one or something. Thinks for the help though.

So does anyone have any recommendations for graphics cards that I can use? Spending limit is probably around $100. I just want an upgrade and at least shader 2.0

I have no idea what I am looking for.

Does that even have pixel and vertex shader 2.0+?

And could I even use it?

For $100 bucks you could get a really nice Radeon ATi off http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ss%202.0%20x16

As long as you have agp, yes and it does have 4.0 pixel shader , but you might have to buy a new power supply cuz your old one should be crap by now (plus can't handle new things such as that card)

How much would that run me?

I guess I'll have to see what I can find out at BestBuy or Circuit City or something.

I would stay away from bestbuy/circuitcity if i was you, they overprice 80% of their stuff, plus they don't have good stuff for the price they charge.

If i was to give you an estimated, i'd say 130$ plus shipping, unless you got it with free shipping

For just the power supply or with the card too?

Man I hate messing with techy crap like this. That is why I usually just buy a brand new comp when my stuff gets old

For both, you could always save money and buy one later, but believe me it'll take you a while and you'll get bored before you have 400$

Alright thanks. That doesn't sound so bad. Now I gotta pitch it to my parents, who are thinking about upgrading it also (and I have more than half the money)

    That or get a job.

My dad wants to custom build a comp but I don't know how well he would do it.
