    Default help me quess whats wrong..

    Okay about my computer again, i installed all parts inside, booted it, starts installing vista 64, then when it hits 71% i hear a zap of some kind in the computer and it goes dead,now i dont know what caused it, i cant see anything burnt but i did smell a burn-ish smell in it and it was really hot, dunno why, i have 4 fans in it, didnt clock and so either.

    When i give power to the PSU the power on button i see the light lit on the motherboard, when i now press the start button i see the fans rotate for a bilionth second, they barely move, what can cause this trouble?

    I called the service for the computer parts and they said i should sent the part/s that might be dmged, but i dont know which..so if i send a part thats not dmged they said i had to buy it out for wasting their time, so i really dont wanna send the wrong parts now. any good ideas what it could be?

    I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

    As snow says, it's most likely your power supply that is dead.

    In a couple cases though, I have experienced the same thing with a dead motherboard.

    First step though, try out a new power supply and see if it works. Just get your buddy to bring his over for a sec so you can test to make sure that's what's wrong before you go spending money and shit.

    5 minutes using his power supply will prevent a ton of back and forth warranty shit, or even save you money if you need to rebuy a part.

    PSU most definitely fried.

    It's likely that it might have taken the MoBo with it, possibly any component can have been harmed.

    The good news:
    You might just put in a diff PSU and it will work like new.
    The bad news:
    If you start to get frequent freezes and BSODs and similar with a new PSU, you still might have to get a new MoBo/Ram/Gfx card; it's a pain to single the faulty stuff out if you can't take it to a computer shop (without paying outrageous testing-fees) and have no testing environment;
    A complete new system would be best, but guarantee usage most likely will have them just send you some sloppily repaired component from another warranty claim.

    What I did, when I had the exactly same issue a couple of years ago:
    Send my Mobo in for warranty (I bought all components from a local shop, so they tested them for free)
    Buy a new one
    Sell the returned one over e-bay.
    Saves time, not money tbh.

    (New motherboard fried within 3 month and the whole story would be a long one, because that was just the start of it.)

    Edit:
    It can also be a short between the MB and the case, if you built it in sloppily; You might be able to see the spot were it happened, on the MB or the case if you take the MB out.

    I tested my PSU on my od computer and it worked fine, so it wasnt any problems with that, but when i tried the PSU on my new mobo it didnt work at all, nothing happens anymore, so it might just be the mobo or am i wrong?

    I called their service and asked how much its going to cost, they said i only have to pay for he shipping this time so that made me happy.. still.. i cant play on my awesoe leet computer

    Hmmm, yea actually that goes well, with the absence of the stink a dead PSU radiates.
    You could put the ram into a diffrent box and do a 24 hours burn in test, same for the gfx, to be sure, but it's a lot of time and you need to have a box to mount them in it.

    Look at your case carefully, if there are any problems with the MoBo, or if you can probably install small plastic place holders to get some distance behind the back of the MoBo, but that's optional.

    You can just wait out the time, till your new board arrives; it's a pain, I know how you feel, but if they are giving you decent support, you are well off.
    Probably it was just a dud and everything from now on will work great.

    I had to bought the new MoBo for the same reason back than;
    I had to finish a design engineering project for the University adn that's why i just got the exact same board from the shop (they had it in store).

    If this isn't possible for you, you'll have to try to find another way around it.

    @Mainboard and proper handling:
    First it is important, that you never touch, or hold any component by any cooling element, which can damage the chip under it and also lead to a short-circuit, or defective cooling.
    No contact between the boards soldering and the case should be possible, even if the board deforms, due to the weight of the processor and it's fan;
    If you try to press it in and move it around a little before you fit it in with screws, there should be no scratching. There should be no artificial particles behind the board.
    screw in in the screws diagonally.
    Placeholders are to be applied if they come with the design, if there aren't any planned in, there should be no need for them theoretically. You still can check if you can apply placeholders additionally as a fail safe measure, if it doesn't displace your board too much in the case, but it's not a necessity as I said.
    Keep the case shut when running the system, for better ventilation and better safety.
