    Default Questions about Guild Wars

Hello all - I'm thinking about buying guild wars today. And I've got quite a few questions for kind people to answer.
    1) I understand that there are a few expansions to it now? If so, should I just buy the original and how much does it cost? (Or should I buy expansions also?)
    2) I heard the max level is 20, does that take a while to get to??
    3) Is it worth the money? I played WoW for a while and it took me a while to get to level 70. But I don't have like 5 hours a day to play, so I'm just wondering if it's a good leisure questing/grinding game.
    4) PvP system? How does it work?
    5) Any additional comments/information would be great like class suggestions and stuff, I like big DPS classes like Mage or Rogue from WoW. Thanks for your time!

    1. 3 standalone games, 1 expansion. I'll go out on a limb and say most are around $20-$30 now? Pretty soon you can get the trilogy pack that has Prophecies, Nightfall and Factions for $50.

    2. No, with Factions, 1-2 days.

    3. It's worth it. Mostly for PvP, but there's a lot of missions PvE-wise as well. I played from the week it came out until about 3 months ago, so it's lasting.

    4. Depends. Random Arena; you and 3 others randomly assigned to fight another team of 4. Team Arena; same as random, but you make custom teams of 4. Alliance Battle; 3 groups of 4 in a node-control game, most fun imo. Guild Battle; 2 guilds in groups of 8 fighting to kill the other person's Guild Lord. Hall of Heroes; 3 groups fight to capture the Hall of Heroes.

    5. DPS, I'd say elementalist, they put out the huge numbers. Same with assassin.

    Hope that helps.

Well the first game was the hardest to level. If I were you, and you don't wanna go through hard quests, and wanna be a loner and walk around with Henchmen, get Factions, its Quest EXP is like 1,000 per quest.
GW was my first MMO, and I know quite abit about it, if you wanna know more PM me, but I can say this, its got a straight line story line. Where almost every quest or mission revolves around trying to get to the ending. Its PVP is fun, its a team of 3-8 I believe and each expansion has a different arena. Factions has two different Factions in which you choose to join one, and you get faction points, in the first one its a normal arena.
The maps are huge, the voices and voice acting are quite well for an Online game.
    I'd give it a 9.5/10 if I could.

Thanks for the information guys. The first one is called Prophecies right? Do I have to get the original to play the others? Factions sounds cool, but I like being in a party. I heard that in the first one when you start out you have to be in a party or something since there are level specific zones? I'm not sure, my memory is very vague. If it only takes a short amount of time before I hit the cap, I'm not sure I like that because PvP can get repetitive if there isn't World PVP or such.

Yes, the first one is Prophecies.

    How it works is;
Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall = Standalone. They can be played by themselves or with each other.
Eye Of The North = Expansion. You need at least ONE of the above to play it. It's level 20 content.

You do have to be in a party for all of the game pretty much, at least if you're not farming. Nice part is it can be the better henchmen, or you can pick up some ******ed PUGs. Zones are kinda level specific, like the mobs in Ascalon are 3-10, Northern Shiverpeaks is like 11-16, etc. It doesn't matter much when you hit 20.

And the entire game, except towns, is instanced. No World PvP at all.

i prefer u get nightfall first cuz its the most active/popular one around,so if everything goes well then head for factions, cuz it got some important thingys like AB(alliance battles)+some good skills which are important later on in the game,so after that get the platinum edition once and for all to get all the game sets and to live happily :3
P.S:there is lots of Guild Wars new comers these days, dont u think?

1.) The other games are not expansions; they are standalone games as well. You do not need to buy any other games, however having only one campaign will severely limit your capabilities in PvP.

2.) Depending on which campaign you buy, you will reach level 20 at different times. For example, the first campaign, Prophecies, levels its characters rather slowly. However, in Factions, you can get to level 20 very quickly.

3.) Guild Wars is definitely worth the money, being a single pay game. It has a great storyline, awesome quests, no grind, great cut scenes, and amazing PvP.

4.) The PvP system is great in Guild Wars. You can have alliance battles, fighting over checkpoints on a large map with people from your enemy faction, which is 12v12. You can do random arenas, which randomly places you with a team of 3 other people against another random team of 4, team battles, where you get to mix and match, and heroes ascent, guild battles, tournament battles, as well as a lot of other things I can't remember right now, which are still AWESOME, and yield great prizes.

5.) The beauty of Guild Wars is that classes are not restricted, by any means, to certain roles. For example, there could be an elementalist that acts as a tank instead of a DPS character, or a warrior that deals damage using spells. At any rate, a good DPS dealer would be an assassin, or an elementalist. Warriors too. Go necromancer for the warlock sort of DOT damage.

    Hope this helps.

    1) As the others said. They are stand alone. But by having the others, it greatly helps you in PvP. And the storylines are great so its good.

    2) Max is indeed level 20. But it doesnt stop there. In the game there are harder areas to explore, and greater equipment to find. Getting to max is easy if you have good friends or a guild that can help you in a tough spot. In one weekend I hit level 15 by playing through the game with one party all day long.

    3) It is indeed worth it. It is a game you might get sick of, but you go PvP on your one character. Then story on another. It is a game that might get old, but you will never uninstall. It is somehow grindy but so little you never notice it. There are lots of quests that get you high enough level to move on.

    4) In game, you can create a story mode character, or a PvP character. Story mode characters follow the game, you start at level one. Your basic game. PvP gives you a level 20 character with your own selection of items and skills. But there are skills that are still locked, and you have to either buy them in story mode, or use your earned PvP points to earn them.

Basic PvP consists of a random team of 4v4 on a small map. I did not go far into this because im not the PvP type.

Some team in Europe won $10,000 by winning a World Wide PvP Tournament. Custon teams can be made as well.

    5) The community has to be the best I have ever seen. All guilds I have been in were very welcome when I was a newbie.

Guilds have their own guild halls (Like a base or hiding area, etc) Thats pretty epic.

The classes are very much like WoW, they all cancel eachother out, so there is no 1 man stands tall problem.

You can have 2 classes. Primary and Secondary. The classes avaliable depends on which you buy. The ones that are ALWAYS there is the:

    Warrior
    Ranger
    Mage
    Mesmer
    Necromancer

All I can say is buy it. Try to get the new PREMIUM Version that gives the Origional along with Eye of the North expansion. Get that, play, then get Nightfall as Factions wasnt as good IMO.
