    Angry Career Trouble

Hey guys, i have a little situation here. I don't know what to do with my life. Im going to nursing school with my sister, who knows like all the ropes & tricks, and she knows what classes i need to take, which is a huge advantage. But on the other hand im not a fast pace person. Im rather a laid back type of person, and people are always talking about how fast pace and difficult the nursing field is. Im also considering teaching, sure it doesn't pay as much as nursing, but it seems to a much slower pace type of career.

If you guys can help me list some PROS & Cons for both NURSING and for TEACHING, much is aprreciated thanks!

Please don't give me a lecture about pick a job that enjoy doing. Because the thing is i never tried neither one of these jobs thats why i don't know if i like them or not.

All i know is money is an incentive for me & so is a job that's laid back. Don't you guys ever wish you can just get paid to surf the net? In High school my computer concept teacher never taught us shit, and he spent his whole day surfing the net. Theres the problem nursing make more overall, but they have to work their butts off. Judge me all you want, call me "lazy" , "slacker", w/e. the fact of the matter is i don't want to get overwhelm, to me consistency is the key.

Besides the PROS and CONS of each Career, which one do you guys prefer?

    Nurse?

    or

    Teacher?

    *EDIT, some additional info*
I research these 2 career rigorously for hours. I won't be picking my career base on what people said, but i want people's opinion on this so that i would have something to think about. Basicly i want some personal insight, maybe one of your family member was a nurse or teacher, if so reply here and tell me about their stories.

But I think that Nursing might be the best option for you, although you'll need quite a lot of Medical Knowledge, plus, depending on what hospital you work at, the job can either be a breeze or it can be hell on wheels.

As for Teaching, if you're lazy and laid back, I'm not sure I'd want you teaching my kids.
I've always had a problem with lazy teachers and how useless they can be, and I've always thought that they should make the teaching career more vigorous, and give teachers some actual funding so they can cover their living expenses. But that's just me because education has always come first, and I've always looked down on teachers who slacked off.

Well to be fair, i think some parents are expecting too much from teachers, if they expect their kids to learn everything at school, and not teach them themself, the parents are just as lazy. I also think that kids should always challange the teachers + seek outside of school knowledge as well if they truly feel they aren't be taught enough.

Also when i said laid back i mean not a super fast pace, like nursing. Like i mention above, i just don't want to get overwhelm, im not lazy.

    Good luck with that.

    if you are thinking:

"oh oh bbbut i know this one guy who does nothing and has loads of money and also this other guy who got to be ceo and he has a ferrari and plays golf all day so maybe i can be the same?"

    no.

for every one person with that kind of existence there are a million who work shitty hours for shitty pay.

if you are a lazy person then you are going to have a shitty job. the only way you get anything in this world is to turn up, log on and grind out. EVERY. DAY. UNTIL. YOU. DIE.

Have you considered becoming a stripper? If you're looking for a career filled with excitement, flexible hours, and a good salary the exotic dancing industry may be the choice for you.

;/ Another prime example of you not comprehending the topic at hand, dannylamb.

;o If you don't have a passion for helping people I don't suggest you go into nursing. I've heard some crazy horror stories, things like AIDS patients spitting on you and people attacking you. I also was told a story of this woman who had a panic attack because she took an elderly man to the shower and when she took his right shoe off, half of his foot just fell onto the floor. He had diabetes and was not taking care of himself. It's a hard job, but it's also rewarding. Everywhere in the country is short-staffed and needs nurses so you have the option of living where you'd like and practicing, but like I said before if you don't have a passion for helping people then do something else.

Alright Kain, no more kidding around. If you force me to Lol one more time, I will be forced to take action.

On topic: Well, going by what you described..I think a teacher would be the better suited choice. Not that you should go by that, I'm just insinuating. A lot of my teachers weren't "lazy" but they were reasonable, and most were actually fun to learn from. Then again..some were major difficulties and reminded me why I hated being in school.

From the nurse point of view, That seems like more of a "follow your dream" kind of career to follow. If you really really want to, you should go to school for it, study it till your eyes bleed, and give it your all. Not that you shouldn't do that as a teacher, but I assume teaching would be easier than Interning at some hospital.

yeah, whatta dream; spend years studying only to have a career spent emptying stool buckets, replacing catheter tubes and helping OAP's change their shit/piss stained underpants.

    Nursing wins hands-down.

They get paid more (They do a tonne of work though, I have a couple friends in the nursing program) and they don't have to work with stupid, smelly, children (as much). Teachers do get significantly longer vacations though.

I'm taking the medical laboratory tech route, it's doing all the bloodwork (bloodbank, TBC's, biochemistry, etc), culturing (Seeing if people have a certain disease and what antibiotic kills it [Kinda scary seeing certain strains of strep resistant to all but 2 antibiotics out of a 30 antibiotic test]), and jobs like that which allow the nurses / doctors to do their job.

Teachers get treated like shit and not too good a pay unless its a private school, I would never be one. Remember back to your time in school and how some kids treated the teachers and you will just cut out that option lol, not like the pay would be nice enough to make up for it

In britain the NHS pays nurses shit and treats them like shit. thats why so many come for the free training then either go abroad or go work in private hospitals where they dont have to clean shit caked sheets with their bare hands all day. its a shame really because our hospitals desperately need dedicated nurses.
