Well the fact that Son-Goku apparently didn't look like an alien(seeing as he blended in nicely with the exception of his tail), had black eyes, black hair, and has a japanese name(or rather, a japanese adaptation of a chinese name) and nobody scoffs at this, my vote goes to Goku looking asian.
I hardly think his "grand-father" would give him a japanese name if he looked nothing like a japanese person...
Also, how awkward doesn't it sound to call a white kid Son-Goku? Seriously...

Taken into account that japanese in general are not so familiar with outsiders, and keeping in mind that this comic is old from when outsiders were even less the norm, I'm pretty sure Toriyama wasn't drawing a person of western apperance.

Anyways, Who cares? This is an adaptation. If they wanna cast Goku white, and they feel it's the right thing to do, then why not?
I mean, I can't even name a single young male asian actor(that can speak english), so for a big production like this, maybe they didn't want to have some more or less unknown actor in the lead role.

Although I can already see that this will be completely different from the original dragonball universe, I'm still thinking it might make for good entertainment. If the story is acceptable, and the fight-scenes are awesome, I'll be satisfied. I never wanted anything else out of any product bearing the name "dragonball".
